hope they go better than the korean rocket
There are three balloons being launched this weekend.
Two from Tamworth on Saterday and one from Adelaide on Sunday.
Is a Hydrogen balloon with a 1250MHz FM television transmitter (fire up your old analog satellite receiver). It also has a geiger counter to measure cosmic radiation on 433.920MHz CW/AM. You should also be able to hear the clicks from the counter using FM, but CW is most reliable.
Is a Helium balloon.
Both balloons are expected to be in the air about 10am AEST
On Sunday about 10am ACST
The balloon being launched from Adelaide has a cross band repeater.
Uplink: 438.900 MHz FM with a CTCSS Tone of 123Hz
Downlink: 144.650 MHz FM (in the 2m experimental segment)

it looks both the balloons went well and were trackable on APRS.
i was able to hear the weak geiger counter telemetry on 433.920 from the hydrogen balloon from the mountaintop and around 6000 it was slow intermittent clicks. the higher it got slowly the clicks increased and at 28000 it was going well with a few clicks per second audible.
i made a recording of the weak carrier modulated with the clicks when it was at the highest point but it ended up being a 12 meg file so will look at chopping it up and posting some up at some stage.

You're a legend Blue. I'm glad somebody captured the audio.
I got a peak of about 10mR/hr it was buzzing along above 65,000ft
I got some good ATV from it too. The ATV was in range for me till about 25,000ft.
I got some good colour P5 views above the clouds but as it got higher and moved away I wasn't able to get a good picture. A few minutes later all I could get was sync bars.
We think the on board camera failed to record and there may be no pictures from it.
VK2BTW-11 landed in a valley on the ground.
VK2BTW-12 landed about 100ft up in a tree.

Missed it, but looks like there would have been no chance of ATV from here anyway.
How come you couldn't get more than 25,000 from the ATV Trash? What was the downwind range at that time?
I probably could have done better, but with a portable setup I had only a few hours to throw together, it did ok. If I had been at home I have no doubt I could have got some good pics from mid flight.
The pics I got were from the ground up to 25,000ft. The balloon was still reasonably close.

That would have been awesome to listen in but unfortunately I missed it. Ever since eeprommemory's post about weather ballon tracking (), Ive been going nuts about trying to listen in, but renovations have seen my antennas removed from the roof and now the Mrs has told me that all my radio gear has to be shifted to a room under the house. Thanks for the clip. Mad seeing the curvature of the earth from up there. Reminds me of the APT from NOAA sats but cant hear them for channel 5A (ABC) on Sugarloaf. Keep us posted on any other launches.
I'd be moving the Mrs. to a room under the house.
this sunday 2 balloons will go up from mildura. they are expecting 3 to 4 hours of flight time. one has a camera and the other has a voice repeater!
it kicks off at 8am eastern aust time, 9am is the second balloon with the camera on board.
here is the website with much more info on the launches
cheers from the bush
