There is a place called the GO Company
They are in West End Brisbane if you are not satisfied with terrible treatment you have received so far LOL
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all

Weirdo, make sure they give you 105°C caps and preferably low ESR.

Well replaced all the caps suggested.
TV still seems to turn to standby at will within 10-30 seconds of turning on.
I've noticed there's a large 'roll' fan at the top in the middle and a small 'normal' fan just below the ysus board.
I've tried with mrsweirdos hairdryer to see if I could influence the startup of these fans (as they don't seem to start up when the tv gets turned on. I'm not sure if they are supposed to, as mick suggested they might only come on when it gets to a certain temp.
The big 'roll' fan will turn on before the small one below the ysus board and I think I saw the latter trying to start up just before it went to standby again.
Once I finally got both fans going the tv seems to fine and stays on.
More experimenting required but I'm starting to wonder if it has something to do with the fans not coming on initially.
Any suggestions appreciated.
The fan leads to main pcb , the socket gets dry s under it the mod was to cut plug of and solder direct ,
in service mode under power think near bottom of menu click on it will find last 20 turn off s
will say remote off main power off or fan off ext
the is 2 menu list 1 has model info and stuff and 1 has adjust
wish i had it in front of me not just my memory after a bear or 2 lol

I had a machine (not tv) at work that use to constantly shut down after start up.
To cut a long story short it was a cooling fan, once i unpluged it the thing ran, maybe try disconnecting your fans and turning the telly on or a few minutes to confirm it is a shorted fan before you start digging deeper mate.

Thanks everyone again for the advice.
I've unplugged the two fan connectors and replugged them in again.
Since then every time I've turned the tv on it the fans have been coming on as the should and no problemos (sofar).
As with intermittent faults like this only time will tell.
I will keep you posted.
Ok time for an update
Have removed the plugs and soldered the fans directly to the back of the board.
The big 'roll' fan seems to be fine (it always seems to start fine).
The small fan near the ysus board is hit and miss. When it doesn't start (I can see it tries to but sometimes just does a few revolutions and then stops) the tv will turn to standby.
I've measured the voltage to both fans and they both receive 7.2 Volts each, which seems a bit low since they're both rated at 12 Volt?
However the big 'roll' fan doesn't seem to have an issue with this, yet the smaller 3 inch ysus fan does. Am I looking at a faulty fan or are they just not getting enough juice?
The saga continues.
The 7 volts might be to keep the fan noise down. Get another fan to test it with. Is it a three wire fan ?

Hey Weirdo (we need to change your name) , just unsolder the fan that you believe is faulty and run the telly, you wont damage anything running without a fan for a while.
Im thinking the DC motor is shorted and drawing too much current, like the problem i had on the machine i was working on at work.
In my case it was blowing fuses, after checking all the boards, relays, pneumatic solenoids etc, simply unplugging the small DC fan solved it, put a new fan in and its still working day after day.
If it still fails without the fan hooked up chances are its not the fan mate.

Just tried another 50 mm fan tonight and it seems to run every time, kicks in the same time as the big 'roll' fan but only runs for a short time each time and then the tv goes back to standby. But I'm wondering if that's because this fan pulls a little more juice.
This one is rated at 0.17 amp whereas the original was only rated at 0.07 amp.
Does that sound plausible?
I'll try and get a similar rated fan from jaycar.
Hm, just checked jaycar online and they don't seem to list a fan with that sort of amp rating. Might have to check elsewhere.
As soon as you mentioned big roll fan I got a flash back, yeah the fans are a known issue in this set, as you said jaycar don't stock them, try computer stores for old CPU fans, they'll be rated that low wattage
When I explained to the guy what avatar I wanted, that wasn't what I meant!

This big ass LG has been working intermittently still but of late it's mostly NOT been working.
When it does work it has such a lovely picture making me reluctant to chuck it out (not to mention I'd need a mate to carry it to the trailer, and I got no mates )
Turned it on yesterday and was greeted by this small square of interference in the center top of the picture.
Does this point to any specific board? Tcon?
EDIT No idea why the pic is upside down
I was sober when I did it
