Hi, I am with DODO at the moment and just carcked it with their service and charges.

What are some good plans at the moment? I will be doing some downloading over the next few months.

    I am based in Melbourne

    Cheers

Tpg seem to have some good deals at present.
    Check the Whirlpool forums.

i have recently gone to koala with my kids account due to them constantly blowing their bandwidth
i am on their 100gig 1500/256 plan as icant get adsl2 here in hobart and considering the bad rap they have on whirlpool i have had no problems at all apart from a few drop outs and the occasional modem reboot
my internode business account is constant 800/800 using their $1000.00 cisco router and thats constant but not cheap

Exetel do have a limit now, albeit a generous one, for this time period.
That being said, I'm with Exetel also & agree that all up you can't do much better.
I am a very satisfied customer!

    Hi,

I'm on the $40 per month ADSL2 with Exetel, 8 Gig peak and 48 gig off-peek
    12.00am to 12.00pm.

Do most of my downloads in the off-peak period.

    Cheers

$3/Gb excess is pretty darn savage.

If Telstra were forced to sell ADSL2 wholesale to other ISP's there would probably be some good plans.

My exchange is now ADSL2 enabled with Telstra only , 600 meg for $70 or some shit

ADSL2 is now available in a lot of exchanges where it previously wasnt available but its Telstra only due to Labor allowing them to do it and not have to wholesale to others. Their prices are half price for a year if you go on contract for 2 years and have your home phone and mobile phone with them as well. So if I want ADSL2 , I basically have to sell my soul to get a decent price out of them.

Wheres the ACCC at the moment ??

This was the case under the previous government, but Telstra were trying to get a deal done with the copper lines under the Liberal Government. When the government changed Telstra was worried they would be locked out of the FTTN so decided to play the card that "ADSL2+" is now widely avaliable.

The ACCC has said they arent going to get into the ADSL2+ arguement because every ISP is free to add their own equipment (which is incorrect) and compete with Telstra.
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.

I know iinet nacked plan had few problems leaving customers without phone for 75 days or something like that. Nevertherless I went ahead and subscribed to the nacked deal No.3 (10 + 20) Gb quota with shaping. No excess fee though. Plus free DID VOIP number with free local and nation wide calls.
Maximum I had to wait for the service activation was less than 20 days and it was only because I had to physically install a new copper line to my house. I was without a phone for about only two days. I have to say that iinet improved alot in their customer satisfaction area.
So to cut the story short, I have now a brand new copper line, ADSL2+ internet, free VOIP with untimed free calls and all this for $69 per month.
I think I am happy at the moment, lets hope the quality of their internet doesn't drop.
Plus on top of that iinet has a so called free zone which is not included in your monthly download quota. And the best part of it is you can have as part of the freezone service.

We are trying out VirginBroadband wireless for a 30 day free trial all phone calls for each month to all land lines and virgin mobiles for $30. No line charge.
Broadband 2 Gig $30 per month, 4 gig an extra $10. Thats all they have for internet so far, so all up it will cost us $70 each month for what we use. Had to put in a external antenna cost was $139 but it works fine.

The 110GB off peak is from 3am to 9am. Only 6 hours. This is something to consider.
I wish they had naked plans with the same quota

I am currently with Optus, getting 21 gig (7 gig peak and 14 gig offpeak)per month for $49 adsl1 1500. I rang them and asked if adsl2 was available and they told me no, looked at telstras web site punched in my phone number and it tells me that i can get adsl2. Looking to change internet providers soon anyway.
