The PVR remote (from another PVR Ready STB) will only partially work with a Software upgraded "standard" STB (that has not been activated yet)
e.g. change channels using the Number buttons & the Help Button, (& the PVR Button for activating the Software) etc....

Able to record off a stick or portable HD?
Nice how they have a scratch panel w/ special code, I guess thats to prevent buying one and fobbing off el-cheapo learning remotes.
First thing you'll notice is white text in the EPG, but overall it handles better and responds faster. Wait until you see the rewind feature (or lack thereof).. Eeek!
hey smacca, you must have kept your original packaging for the remote (with the code), i didn't.............
Will be interesting to see when the remote is available in stores..... and the price.
AFAIK no USB sticks supported & not all Hard drives.
No WD hard drives supported.
This is the list off the UEC web site:
Supported Hard Drives
Samsung G3 Station
- 1TB External Hard drive
- 2TB "Story" External Hard drive
Seagate Expansion External Hard drive
- 1TB External Hard drive
- 2TB Expansion External Hard drive
Iomega
- 1TB External Hard drive
Buffalo
- 1TB Drive Station
Not compatible:
All Western Digital Drives
Cheers, Tiny

I've tested a couple of USB sticks ... Transcend 4GB USB 2.0 and Patriot 32GB USB 3.0 pen drives, both work fine... however... they are very warm in use, which suggests they are working under load drawing excessive current from the boxes.
Any USB external drive requires it's own power supply, as the decoder supply is insufficient to power any external device, even a USB stick.
A powered USB hub 'may' be sufficient, but I would recommend a separate power supply for any HDD used.
If you try and power a USB drive directly from the decoder, you run the risk of damaging the decoder power supply.
