    Default VAST problems

    Hi,
I am trying to help out a grey nomad at 40 mile beach (50 klm south of Karratha WA),
I have managed as much signal as I can on his 73cm dish
Checked that his 10700 LNB is in his vast setup (Altech DSD4121)
Have carried out factory reset a couple of times
The signal on the tv shows nil

I cannot get channel 800 to come up to utilise the reactivation of his card

The same chap had problems with reception last year, with the same setup, and I factory reset it for him and it worked...... but this time without receiving channel 800 I am stumped.

    please help

A 73cm dish should be OK for the location.

How are you measuring the signal..... with a satfinder/meter or just looking at the signal scale on the screen?

Have you adjusted the LNB skew to optimise signal quality?

Have you checked all cables for shorts or open circuits?

Do you have another known-working decoder you can test on his dish (can be for VAST or Aurora).

Can you test his VAST decoder on another known-working dish setup?

I am measuring the signal with my satfinder
I have adjusted the skew to maximise satfinder reading
I changed cables with my own
I used another chaps dish to try for signal

It seems like the decoder box is not getting any signal at all

I will try my Strong decoder in his van using his dish

If VAST was down how did you get the firmware update??
The firmware update has just been released OTA, everyone will get it when they reboot or select DSD Upgrade in the menu.

Nothing really unusual there... satfinders can sometimes indicate signal with nothing connected.

Process of elimination..... always handy to have a spare LNB to test with.

    Pleased you got it sorted.

Maybe the fault in the LNB was causing the meter to read, feedback maybe but that doesnt matter now because its up and running.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

four dashes means it is not receiving a signal while in standby mode, the current time should be showing.

Try unlugging the power to the decoder for 30 seconds then turning back on.

It may be trying to complete a firmware upgrade, which it often won't do fully from just a 'standby' state, but need to be fully powered down.

    Default vast problem

    firmware upgraded completed yesterday.
if i hit reset button it reloads everything.
weather here is not a problem, don't know about further out in space.

problem is that if it goes into this state recordings don't happen. firmware should check on signal loss and automatically reboot system. if they had a flash memory for this box, an intermittent signal loss would not be a problem.

have reported it to uec but have to gather more information.

    thanks for suggestions.

but i repeat is anyone else experiencing this problem??
