    Default VAST Update oddity.

I finaly got to check the STB I installed 2 weeks ago for a neighbor and it had done the Update ALL BY ITSELF, yaaaaaah !!!!!
One out of 4 aint Bad...............
I checked the menu and there was the 'Record Option' available, the Update Option 'Greyed Out' and the 'Help Button' shows all those install details.
However when I went to channel 800 to see what it said (if anything) I noticed in the right hand corner of the Info bar were the words 'PVR Update' and an 'orange' coloured eggshaped 'lozenge'
I rechecked the menu but the update option is 'Greyed out' so thats a bit of a puzzle.
One other thing I didnt see were any details or instructions on what/where or how to implement the Update.
I checked my own STB when I got back home but it doesnt have that 'PVR Update' in the ch 800 Info bar as I did the upgrade myself.
BTW, this stb was on Ch 1 (ONEHD) when I checked it, I just turned on the TV, pressed the 'Help' button and up came the install instructions.
The owner is a shift worker nurse so she doesnt get to watch it too often so we dont know when the STB updated.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

In this case 'lozenge' is a shape rather than a confection.
A 'Cartouche' is also a shape or badge containing letters or numbers.
I certainly wouldnt recommend anyone to do the old 'Suck it and See'

Maybe the OTA Automatic Upgrade is now triggered to update all STB's ........?

You can also check the Software version to see if it has been Upgraded to the New Software 2.300

Menu - Advanced Options -Information - DSD Status

With the New Software 2.300 installed it should look something like this...

I'm only guessing, but I think the little icon is just to advise an automatic update has been installed.

In this case, it's alerting the viewer they now have the PVR option available to them.

By performing the update manually, you don't need to be told an update has been performed.

The yellow "lozenge" is telling you to press the yellow button on your remote. If you see it and press yellow, a kind of advert screen pops up telling you what you need to do to get PVR enabled on your box.

Why the hell isnt this information posted on Channel 800 that is supposedly there to advise viewers of updates and other relevant information?

I am guessing that if you do indeed press the'yellow' button on the remote it will say you have been updated but if you did it yourself, you already know that.

Oranges and Lemons are orange and yellow,
But Pink aint Purple say the 'Boys' of 'Le Girls'
'Lozenge' is a shape and a confection as well
Just be sure which is which before you take a bite
or break a tooth that could hurt just a Mite.

Yes your right but that's to hard for them to do. Like one minute they tell you the update will be automatic and then the tell you to go into the menu and go to DSD upgrade.

On another occasion I sent them an email a week ago (again) about my HDD not shutting down when the box is in standby, then i find that my particular HDD isn't supported.

So it's anything goes at this stage.
