Just thought I would post this as I am sure NDS cams would be as rare as rocking horse shit here.
It might interest someone with lots of time on their hands who can work out how to get a Foxtel NDS card to work in it
Look Here -> |
This auction ended yesterday and the cam sold for $153.50. The buyer was obviously prepared to go higher. If someone on this board my congratulations. You got a bargain if you can get it to work for Foxtel. I did bid but not too high as I do not know firstly if the cam will work with a Foxtel card and secondly whether my very limited level of expertise would be enough to get it working. I actually asked the seller who replied:
"I have no idea about what for or how it was used. When I insert the module in a sat receiver it gets registered as NDS Videoguard cam."
Would be interested in members opinions as to the prospects of actually getting this or another hardware cam actually working with genuine Foxtel blue or orange cards?
im no expert here but i wouldn't think a fox card would work with the NDS cam, reason i say that is if they have stopped genuine sub cards working in third party boxes then what will a cam do thats different to having the card in the box on its own, im sure someone with more knowledge will correct me if im wrong.
I am not saying this cam will work with a foxtel card without a bit of tinkering or at all for that matter but this cam is made specifically for use with NDS cards and therefore has the dedicated hardware needed to work in the same way as your foxtel receiver has a inbuilt NDS cam inside it ( card reader ). The third party boxes use a multicrypt cam / card reader along with software methods ( softcams ) to read and decrypt the card which is how they were able to stop the cards working with third party boxes while not affecting their own receivers.

The same seller has listed another one - .
It'll be interesting to see what this one goes for.

I'm sorry I didn't see it earlier. $31 would have been a great price to just get one and play around with it. They're a great buy at $150 if they work, let alone at $31. As I post the bid on the new one is already $51 with almost 6 days to go. I think I'll keep an eye on these and see if I can pick one up over the next few weeks.
These are old cams used when Fox was running cable , they wont work with current cards .
SMIT in China are making cams for NDS now , working with a Orange card , can,t say about a Blue .
oblada , life goes on , blah
from what i can gather the above cam is from the Viasat package and nothing to do with fox what so ever.

With respect to NDS, I have some UK foxtel (sky) Pace and Amstad digi boxes here with cards and they wont even recognize the Australian data stream.
They will however scan and find channels, like Eljiz. But they wont store them.
Mind you I have no idea if the signal is the same in the first place. A bit like the cams maybe.
I too contacted smit asking how much these NDS cams are and where I could buy.
Answer:
We can’t sell NDS CAMs directly, please contact the operator directly.
If the price was reasonable I was willing to take the punt and use with my octagon receiver as a master and other octagons as clients.
SMIT are a funny mob. With their Irdeto cams being buggered with being married after you put an Austar card in I was trying to get a solution and was working with an engineer for a bit and then he went cold.
