    SNOW TIME!

Once again it's been a magnificant start to the 2012 ski season at Falls Creek. After a nice dump of snow over a week ago, it was melting quickly with all the fine weather we've had. Earlier in the week it was looking grim with only the Mouse Trap kids run opening but with all the cold clear cloudless nights, the snow makers came out and did a fantastic job on Main Street, Highway 83, Wombats Ramble and of course the mouse trap area.
I took the kids up and we had a ball. It was a great day! We had dinner at the Frying Pan Inn and to finish the night there was a magnificant fireworks display. What a way to start to the season!

You make me soooo jealous Leroy, lucky bugger

Even living in Newcastle could jump in the car do a quick 6.5 hrs drive and be on the slopes at thredbo or perisher, now on the sunshine coast (which is a deceiving name as it's nearly always raining, the tropics pfft) the trips WAY to long, now looking at passport and doing NZ for 2 weeks of the year to get the slide fix

I reckon NZ would be great and if wasn't so close that's where I would like to go.

Bah, give me QLD weather any day, freezing my balls off ATM, wouldn't go to the snow if you paid me.

I was in Brisbane Friday, was walking around in a t shirt, back in Melbourne with 2 coats on right now.

Only NZ as there's a new international terminal going into maroochydore airport offering cheap flights on air NZ direct.

Literally 20mins down the road, and the flight and I'm there!!!

Yeah Godzilla know what you mean, even when it's "cold" up here it's still not that cold, I stick out a bit, not yet local walking around in t-shirt and shorts when others are all rugged up with smoke coming from they're chimneys, bloody funny how we get acclimatized LOL

I hope to experience snow for the first time this year,

I'm taking the wife and the kids to the gold coast as well, but we'll head south if snow calls our name.

I spent the first 10 years of my life in a place where we got snowed in every winter and couldn't go to school.

I have lived & worked in the tropics and I could quite happily live in the snow. My missus gives me filthy looks every time I mention snow.

I took the family to Mt Hotham today and it was a lovely sunny cloudless day
Good cover of snow on the Summit, Playground and Big D but not as nice as Falls Creek on Saturday but it's been a couple of days between drinks! Really, you can't complain about the conditions for the start of the season, it's fantastic!

What a cracking day on the slopes yesterday was. There was 50cm of fresh snow from Thurs/Fri nights falls which enabled the Drovers chair to open and runs like Last Hoot are now opened, HIghway 83 is fully covered. It was a lovely sunny day until lunch time then the cloud moved in and it started to snow again.
Just deciding if to take the kids up again for the morning?????

Well there has been another big dump. We went up last night and the kids and SWIAC took the kids night skiing. The snow here at Falls Creek was awsome. That awsomeness extended to today as it was still snowing. The entire mountain is now open incuding the Summit.
Visibility wasn't to bad but my daughter and I (well she's now 8 and she planned which runs we were going to do and I just had to keep up lol) went out for a board/ski and it was fantastic. We don't get great snow like this all the time!
Take a 'snowy' get up there!

Being a man of leisure now due to the GPS tracker installation (that's another story) I decided to head up to Falls Creek today. Great snow cover and great visability. The wind picked up a bit towards lunch and I decided to head down after 2pm when it looked like the weather was starting to close in.
Hopefully I've laid to rest any doubts one may have as to how good the cover is!

    Leroy

Edit: I should also point out that the next few days will prob be a bit average but they're expecting up to 50cm over the next few days

It's near the bridge bordering the 2 towns, do a Google Earth and you should find it.
