What is your hot water heating consumption?
KWhrs and the number of days of the account would be great.

kWh 86 - $18.44 (minimum service charge, tarrif 33)
Cold wash, with once a month hot wash (connect machine to hot water tap) to keep machine healthy. Water tank thermostat is set to 60c. This billing period was for warm weather period ended March. The current period has taken a decidedly cold turn and I expect the water heating bill to rise significantly.
... or maybe not. Admittedly consumption went well up for the 95 day period just ended - to 161kWh - but the overall charge for the tarrif is only $22.01.
Make sure that the outlet pipe, the vent pipe and any exposed copper plugs on the tank are insulated. At least 3 feet of the outlet pipe, but ideally the whole thing. You'd be surprised at just how much heat those fittings leech out of the tank and the $ quickly add up.
How you use the hot water makes a big difference too. The main use here is for showering. My family lived on tank water when I was young and I picked up the habbit of not leaving the water running in the shower. Get in, adjust temp, wet down, water off, soap up, water on, rinse off, water off.

I put a Timer and 25 A contactor on my switchboard, set the timer to come on at 2.00 a.M to 5 a.m.We got a 250 ltr tank, 2 adults and 1 nine year old girl with long hair.We never ran out on hot water, electric cooking, 2 fridges,1 small freezer ,2 fishtanks,1 with a heater.
I paid last bill, 4 weeks ago, $ 320.00 for 89 days.
And the tank is outside.
Just wait till that 9 year old hits her teens. Then you'll know all about big bills.

Resurrecting an older thread...
The house of Spanky is currently a batchelor pad (groovy baby) and I've been monitoring electricity use by noting the meter daily at 5:30am. So far weekday general draw (4 day average) is 3.25kWh, hot water is 1.1kWh. Hot water is probably assisted by the fact that the 'cold' water comes out of the tap at over 30c (currently 34c and its only 7am).
Weekend usage should be interesting.
