    Default DisEqc switches.

I was just wondering if anybody can recommend any decent DisEqc switches out there to buy. I have bought two different brand switches and both brands have basically been rubbish! I suppose you can say that they were on the cheaper end of the market - so you get what you pay for. Ports don't work and ports blow. I never change satellite cables with the decoder on and always follow basic rule of thumb so I cannot blame myself for any problems with the switches.
Also are there any which have plastic covers as well to protect them from moisture etc. Thanks everybody.

Gee I wished you posted this before I sent your receiver! I would of slipped one in the box. I just use those DMS branded ones. I've had one in the weather for 6 years! Of course cable connections are sealed.

Strong have plastic covers, but they won't prevent moisture.

The best defence against moisture is 1. Ensure all connections (used or not) are sealed gas-tight, with self-amalgamating butyl rubber tape (absolutely essential).

    2. Keep the switch inside, not outside exposed to the weather.

The self-amalgamating butyl rubber tape is the key to me not having issues.

Exactly..... should be used on every external connection, LNB's, switches, splitters, joiners, etc.... satellite and terrestrial.

    Default DisEqc switches.

Thanks MTV & Leroy Patrol. Just wondering what price is the Butyl tape. I believe it is quite expensive? I don't really want a huge big roll of the tape?
I have the current DisEqc switch on the back verandah where it is out of the weather.
I might actually get the Strong DisEqc with the cover. I just think the cover will give the DisEqc switch that bit of extra cover.
Damn it Leroy my timing for the freebie DMS switch was out of timing

    It's very cheap protection.

If you don't use it, you will have moisture getting into connectors and cables.

Don't use ordinary electrical insulation tape, as it traps moisture in.

For extra UV protection, you can add good electrical tape (Eg: Nitto Brand... same as the butyl rubber tape brand) over the amalgamating tape.

Just being under a verandah only gives it protection from direct sun & rain, not moisture.

The plastic cover just helps with mounting, but doesn't do anything to prevent moisture ingress into connections.

Get compression style connectors as they make a watertight seal against the rg6 where the crimp style don't actually seal anything at all.

I recently grabbed one of these because they all point down which makes sense, and their sat finder and pci-e blindscan tuners are a good deal

    G'Day Cobber,
there seems to be one salient point overlooked.
    The ubiquitous Drip Loop.

The first line of defense against against moisture ingress.
All cables must run down from the connector or point of entry to an external wall or up within the cavity / internal wall.
Then seal with tape as advised.
    Not expensive. $19.95 / 10 Mts,

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

    Default DisEqc switches.

Thanks MTV I will buy a roll. Obviously do you suggest even taping up the cable connections to the LNB? I have my KU dishes on the back verandah in good line of sight to the satellites - out of the weather.

Yup thanks beer4life. As said in previous post I will buy a roll of the tape and seal the points and connections.

    It's essential.

If you don't, moisture (humidity, condensation, dew, etc) makes its way along the threads into the connector and cable.

    Default 8 Port DisEqc switches.

    Hi everybody
Just wondering what people's experiences have been with 8 port DisEqc switches. I have just bought an Openbox S10 and while it is fine with a 4 port DisEqc switch on the 1:0 setting I cannot get any joy out of the 8 port DisEqc switch with the Openbox on the 1:1 setting. I have 4 KU dishes C1, D1, D2 and Intelsat 8 and the C Band which I want running on the one switch. Anybody with any ideas? Thanks folks.

hmmmm I use th $12 ebay ones and havn't had a problem so far (Touch wood) all with humax. instant switch no problem. I have used 4 of these for family they come in a red box brand gecon only use all 4 with mine tho only 2 dishes for family and friends. well U run 2 x 2 x 4 using one with the 12v switch output of humax to run 6 dishes so use 4 of one and 2 on another. dont understand how or even if the cascade option works with ToH if you can run a switch off of a switch. and. hard to explain my wiring. as U use 6 dual OP LNB's into each set of 2 I need to draw a diagram one day.

    EDIT

Basically I run 6 dishes and can use any I want in both main bedroom and loungeroom

    Hi David
Have you selected the correct setting for Diseqc 1.1?
I had the openbox and used it with more than 8 LNBs ( Diseqc 1.0 4x1 switch cascaded).
I had problem with 1 switch I bought ...ROC SW81 multiprotocol. It does not have the logo Diseqc 1.1 on the switch. Be careful
The one that works for me is below

thanks everybody for their posts as they have been very helpful to me. I run feeds from a fixed C band system and separate KU offest dishes for C1/D3 and D1. Was about to spend a lot of time and energy fixing external conduit then drilling into the blockwork separately for each feed but now realise that I can mount an external DisEqc switch (with the right waterproof tape) with a single input for the internal wall outlet.
