Default Printer port, and COM ports

Hey all. I need to get my sat box hooked up to my PC. The only cable I have is a null modem cable, which is the right one, but it happens to have a printer port plug on the other end! Are there any fixes/cracks (no, not with a hammer) that I can use to make the computer think that the printer port is a com port?

    Mucha appreciated all. Thanks, Mick.

You can't make a parallel port act like a serial port (well you could but not worth the effort) You could by a DB25 to DB9 converter but then you may as well just buy a correct new cable.

    pin 5 ...to... pin 5
    pin 6 ...to... pin 4

What did you do to your box kiddo? Do a google for null modem cable and then you can make one up.

I had a look and that pin config will do the trick. Pull out that soldering iron!

And solder I shall. I am too sleep-deprived at the moment, and this coffee isn't doing the trick, so tomorrow I'll have a crack at it. I tried to go from 1.17 on the 4658x to 1.04p, as I was having probs with the SelecTV card dropping out, and she went to 100%, and then turned off, and now I just get the 4 flashing lights of doom.
