looks great... what is the AJS history?
coffin tank is an original 60's custom tank.
bike was built from parts, no original bike was killed in the making of this custom (for you purists).
frame is 1948, motor is a genuine 500 comp motor (all alloy) made in 1952. the 'original' 350 motor will be refitted soon, as the 500 comp motor is too grunty for this bike and deserves to go in a proper bike.
front brake is a twin leading shoe honda, forks are extended by 2 inches.
i am looking for a 350/500 basket case to make up another bike using the 500 motor. i have lots of spares as well....

Not to bad, she looks pretty cool.
It reminds me that true hot rodding / bike building starts by using parts from other vehicles and adapting them with minimal outlay of money......and boy she looks good.

Hitting bumps on corners must be fun, with that hardtail and the girder. Do you screw those star dampers up tight? And what'd you use to extend the tubes, radius rods? And are the 'lectrics original Lucas (Prince of Darkness)?
Oh BTW, technically that's actually a diamond tank, not a coffin - although these days nobody seems to care anyway :-)

When I was a kid I use to go to my grandmother’s house and play in the back yard. One of the things I remember of that place was a big old motor bike leaning on the back fence. I remember it because it had the word Indian on it.
I never thought much of it until I went to a Shannon’s classic car and bike display and there was one there on display with a price tag of over $100k. Admittedly fully restored.
After seeing that I asked my uncle what ever happened to that old bike. Oh we dug a hole and buried it.
That was a lot of years ago now so there would only be iron oxide left plus the property has had several owners since. Don’t ask me the year as I don’t know I was only a kid at the time.
