home security

Hi,
Come home from work on monday and found that my house had been robbed they got all my game consoles, laptops, gold, cash and other stuff.
can anyone please give me some advice about home security? what spec computer i would need including capture cards and the rest.
i was looking at something like this,
with a program called motion hunter, because i want wireless, i would need the software to do the motion detection (if possible) and send something (SMS?) to my mobile, also remote monitoring via the internet, i dont know anything about this so any help would be appreciated

It would be more effective having an alarm system installed that has the SMS capabilities you want, and install dummy cameras rather than installing that crap off ebay.

I know it's tempting, the price is cheap. But at the end of the day if you want incriminating footage then you will require a decent CCTV system installed. Just like Audio, the output is only as good as the input. Install crap and you get crap.

What you need to do is sit back and think about what it is you need. Then think about how much your budget will be, then we can suggest what would suit your situ.

ive gotta agree with intelli on this one mate
ive looked into getting a secuirty system done myself and ive done the hard yards in terms of research. Spoke to a installer off austech month or so back and he was very helpful in his advice .

Dont play around with those toys on ebay. Outlay the intial amount required and get it professionally done. PC based capture cards wouldnt be much good if they nick off with your pc as well.

Maybe call around a few installers tell them exactly what you need and see what they say.
