Am I wasting my time as every thing I attempt to watch buffers badly?

What is the service you have marty ? From memory you cant get adsl, so would it be telstra/optus/vodafone wireless ? If so, I dont like your chances and the amount of bandwidth it gobbles would be too expensive unfortunately.

In all honesty I havent tried wireless to see whether it will work, I'll have to put it on my list of things to do

Ok, you might be in luck. The Netflix website states the following :

How fast does my broadband Internet connection need to be to watch instantly?

Watching instantly works with all different levels of broadband, however, we recommend a minimum speed of 500kbps (0.5MB).
At a guess it might buffer for up to a minute at the start.
