I havent got either box, do they have vent slots above the card reader? If so then maybe a small fan would do the trick.

    Hi xtrail,

There were a few threads on this issue on the old forum. The issue is well known, some members advised using a special glue and some foil or special heat resistant tape.

It seemed to affect some decoders more than others.

    cheers

Try heat conductive grease/paste, which is used on IC`s etc in electronics, that may help.

Dont think the foil idea would work, as that would only collect the heat at the rear of the chip and not cool it.

    cheers

I thought it was only a Humax card slot problem ? A mate has a strong and hasnt had any problems.

Thats the impression I was also under Ajax , my mates card looks untouched.
I have seen one from a Humax card slot that looked like it had been in a blast furnace.

On one of my old boxes an em-200 the cam and card(silver) would get hot and the set would only recieve FTA. So I had to turn off the set and let it cool down and all would work for while. So I did what some body else said it this thread and put in a fan over the cam, no it didnt look pretty but it worked. So if this helps...

If your box has a heat problem then a strip of copper tape on the card will fix the problem.....if you do use copper tape just make sure you never insert card the wrong way around

I've found the original cards had that issue and the current ones are fine.

This is my solution. A bit brutal, but it works.

The cutting was done very carefully with a dremel and very fine cutting disc.

a 12 foot fan 5mm from the card would do it as well

I believe that glass places sell copper tape for lead lighting. About $12 per roll. Or you can use a piece of thin brass shim cut to size, and slip it in under the card (in a Humax).

There was a post about doing mods to the Stongs 4658x to make them run cooler. There were a few saying it was cooking cards to the extent that they couldn't get pics again until everything cooled down again.

dvd players the real small ones
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all

The strange thing is that the bottom of the card reader on an IR Ace is already open, and yet the box suffers more from heat issues than the 5400/10. In the Ace, however, there is a big IC directly under the card reader on the motherboard.
