Thumbs down One dish, two STB's = Cards?

This is probably a very basic question and shows my lack of knowledge, but ...

I want to get setup for SelecTV and have the signal at two seperate locations in the house. From reading through the forum I deduce that a dual LNB would be the way to go - yes/ no?

Would this make it necessary to have a card in each of the STB's? - or will one do the job.

    Thanks,

    Silver.

To get the signal to 2 different outlets yes a dual output LNB is required and it sounds like you already have 2 stb's. So you can swap the card all the time between boxes or look at the Smart Wi splitter from .

I personally don't have one but Mr Electricity has and I'm sure he'll be along to comment.

    Thanks guys,

Sorry Leroy, I don't (yet) have the STBs, I'm trying to find the most effective way to achieve this ........... and ..

i used an av sender, about $120, works ok but microwave oven's annoy it
This may be the way for me to go as the distance is only around 35', microwaves not withstanding. Anything to shy away from?

There's 5.8GHz models available which should get around the hassles that could arise with the standard 2.4GHz.

    Regards,

    Silver.

Selectv's on IS8 are Horizontal Polartiy only.

So a simple satellite splitter and a single lnb will do the job; if you have two stb's with two cards ... which you most probably won't.

Yes a SmartWii card splitter work great on a select tv card as Mr Leroy has already mentioned I have used it personally for a couple of years as for 2 outlets Farmsky is spot one as always a single LNB is fine for IS8 that's all I have and then split but it must be a good and make sure it is power by pass to all ports or you will have your LNB power down if one of the boxes gets switched off.

Not used Smartwi, but for what its worth- ze older small diameter wired Microlinks with 5.1 wafer don't work with Select.

I havn't heard of that unit, is it the type of spitter that requires runing cat 5 or phone cable to each client card?

I'm running two stb's off the one motorised dish one with a goldie and the other with a provider card, and using a $2 shop av sender unit to switch between the two stb's, bit of a pain to manually switch between the two stb's but it does the job.

although, I mainly use the one stb for viewing while the other keeps the provider card updated

Smile recommended low-cost receiver for smartwi with sel*ct tv?

    Hi.

Im a noob. This is my first post in this forum.

I know little to nothing about satellite stuff, however I am quite techincally minded. (15 years as computer tech and 5 as a programmer)

I have Sel*ct TV at home, legitimate subscription. They came and installed it and set up the little dish on my roof and gave me the crappy basic little receiver. (installed about 3 months ago.)

It all works great, but of course now I want to be able to watch it in a different room as well.

After tossing up between wired and wireless card sharing I concluded that wireless would be funkier if it worked. I ordered a smartwi set from sattronics yesterday and it will arrive today.

I am just planning on splitting the cable that comes down the wall from the dish. (I will use an f-connector type splitter)

So now I am looking at buying the sat receiver to go in the second room.

    So, my question... is..

Is there a decent low-cost receiver that is known to work well with smartwi and sel*ct tv? and do i need to worry about cams or anything?

I am looking at buying a Strong 4658X for $150 locally (I am in brisbane) but I have read some people say that they have trouble getting the Strongs to work with smartwi?

Should i be looking at a different brand or model?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I will post my findings/experiences/results as i go...
