Bottom line, you get what you pay for. If the hosting is for business purposes, then pay the extra and get something which will give you support, if its just personal, then anything is probably suitable.
Looking for some feedback and recommendations of some web hosting resellers. I've looked at a few and for every good review there is a bad review to match it. Would love to know what you guys think

What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

Cwispy runs a very professional business and could help you with your needs. See "server maintained by" link at the bottom of every forum page.
As mentioned, when it comes to business and personal its very different. If your personal site goes offline for any reason, its not really a biggie. But if its your business, it can be very damaging.
You could take Austech as an example. Due to legal issues, we cant be hosted in Australia. This means that if there is a server problem that requires physical intervention, we have to wait until they can send someone to the data centre to fix it. If its in a foreign company, time differences and even language differences can slow things down. Foreign servers can also be slower due to the distance and route data has to travel.
If you are hosted in Australia, its by far the best option for business. Believe me, you will sleep better at night Contact Shane at and see what you can work out. Shane provides assistance to Austech with our server when we run in to problems and he has proved numerous times there isnt any problem he cant get sorted out.

I am testing a Magento ecommerce site currently hosted with MDGit ()
Had it with Hostgator in the US, but it was so slow, I considered dumping the whole Magento thing.
Peter at MDG has been a great help and the site is running as fast as we need.
Seems Magento is a hog on resources, but these guys have worked it out.
The support is great too (unfortunately I've buggered a few things up and they have gone out of their way to help)
Godaddy best bang for bux cannot go wrong 24/7 support on phone. which i think is fantastic specially if you get problem late at night you don't have to wait till next business day.
servers located in Singapore.
Crazy Domains for Domain names there the cheapest.
pinging shanes website is slower than godaddy's.
that's my feedback and no disrespect to anyone.

I seriously doubt your going to ping godaddy in the USA faster than my site. This is from an adsl connection. From the data centre I can ping the east coast with response times of 1ms.

There is no way you will get a faster ping to a site in the USA if you are pinging an Australian site from Australia.
Pinging 2000cn.com.au results in an average ping of 65ms.
Pinging godaddy.com results in an average of 228ms.
Godaddy has servers in various different locations, they decide where they will put you. You are also on shared hosting with hundreds, sometimes thousands of other websites.
Its already been stated here (quoted again below), so I am not sure why you are bumping all these web hosting threads some of which are getting old.
I doubt you would find too many people in Australia trusting godaddy to host a serious business site. Unless there is some reason such as legal, you would not host your business site overseas jammed on a shared server with thousands of others. Its fine for a personal website, but thats where it ends.Originally Posted by cwispy

Yes Godaddy is based in US.and yes ping time would be slower.for your test you conducted.
However All there customers from Australia there webs are hosted from singapour servers with nice backbone from singtel.
if your worried about shared security get a deticated server.

Being hosted in Singapore is still going to be a hell of a lot slower than hosting within Australia. As soon as there is any subsea cable issues, or routing problems, overseas back haul links are the first ones to get hurt. I have many clients who used to be with godaddy and couldnt wait to leave due to the 'quality service' they were receiving.

Everyone has there opinion and I'm not going to get into a mock trial debate I conducted my test and you conducted your tests at the end of the day it personal preference and user experience as they say you cannot please all your customers weather it your fault or theres there will always be that disgruntled customer and I guess the more clientle you have the more possibilty of having one of those people. shane may have 10 clients with no unhappy customers and godaddy may have 1 million with 100 unhappy customers.
Our internet speed suck in Australia comapred to us and uk and other countries

A family member is setting up a business and is keen to get good advice on where to go for web hosting. Is there any other suggestions apart from what has been discussed here so far?
As noted earlier I take note that everyone is entitled to their own view and choice. I am only going to pass on some details and let others decide
What about website design. Any recommendations on where to go?
