    Default Setting up Austar/STB/DVD Recorder

    Afternoon everybody

My home Austar/FTA/DVD Recorder/TV with set-top-box (STB) is not set up correctly and I think improvements can be made. My present setup is -

FTA>STB>Input2 on TV (using R,Y,W RCA Cable).

The digital signal from the Satellite dish is -
Sat Dish > Austar Atlas Box(via RG6 cable) > Panasonic DVD via RCA Cable > Input 1 on TV.

Presently to change from Satellite to FTA channels I have to select 'Source' on the TV remote and select AV2, pick up the STB remote and select the channel I want.

I can't record FTA while watching Satellite and vice versa.

To help in figuring out what I can do the components have the following connections

    Austrar Atlas Decoder
    PAL In/Out
F Connection for RG6 from dish
    RCA out
    SVideo out

    Panasonic DVD Recorder
SCART x 2 (I assume in and out)
    S-video In and out
    RCA in and out
    YPbPr (Yipper) out

    TEAC Digital Terrestrial Receiver (STB)
    RCA out
    Y Cb Cr
    PAL in and out
    S-video out

    Palsonic LCD TV
    S-video In
Y Pb Pr in and out on Input 1 and 2
RCA in on input 1 and 2

My thoughts are that if I connect the S-video from the STB to the DVD Recorder at the same time as the RCA comes in from the Austrar decoder I may then be able to record either and try and reduce the handset juggle.

    Any suggestions or ideas appreciated

    Neville

    Nifty,

you may want to try this.

First of all you could use the

Panasonic DVD Recorder YPbPr (Yipper) out and go to one of the inputs of the LCD tv which would give you better quality picture, and also the Y Cb Cr output of the Teac Digital Terrestrial Receiver (STB) to the other Component input on the LCD. Thus now you have two high quality picture from the two devices.

    Next :

Take the SVideo out of the Atlas box and place it into the DVD recorder with respective audio. For you want to record a better quality picture than RCA output.

Next take the RCA out of the FTA STB and place it into the DVD recorder with a Scart adapter.

Then take the RCA out of the Atlas and place it into the TV.

I hope this is what you are looking for. I hope it is not too confusing.

I have drawn a quick diagram of what I mean I hope this makes Sense and is what you are looking for.

    Regards

    Dan

    BTW here is the Pic

    Default Setting up Austar/STB/DVD Recorder

Thanks Sathack for the great info.

When I connected the S-video from the Austar Box to the DVD recorder all I got was a b/w picture on the TV. I raked around in my junk box and found a RCA to Scart Converter and plugged that into the Scart input on the DVD and ran the RCA cables from Austar box.

Everything works great, I can record either now and have eliminated one Handset (TV) except for switching it on or off. The Panasonic DVD handset has the capabiliity to switch the TV on/Off but I tried every setting from 01 to 20 and no luck. Maybe I should try 00. Looks like the Palsonic TV uses different frequencies that the major bands.

Regardless, I'm now bettor off thanks to you.
