What setup for Austar

* You dont need to use a CAM if the the decoder has an inbuilt card slot (obvious).
* Splitters will tend to glitch sometimes, sometimes not, or often. Use current models.
* The provider decoder can be one of the boxes in the loop, or not.
* If a decoder uses a CAM - I'd use a 'freecam' over say a purple or other newer Irbeto cam bearing Revision 1.1(003b), as these newer CAMS pop-up 'nag' boxes to harrass and beat you up at every available technical opportunity.

Hi all
i am looking at getting a card splitter so i can have austar in my shed, lounge room and bedroom, with the one austar card,

the question is can i use a decoder box non austar ie: humax stong ect.. by using one of the card splitter cards straight in the card slot or do i have to get a CAM for each decoder??

any help would be great thanks

felsy, you can use the RF output on the back of your decoder box and send it to a splitter and tune the RF frequency on each tv. However you won't be able to watch different channels.

Yes if you are willing to let the austar box sit in the cupboard. you will need either a quad lnb or a dual lnb and a multiswitch, and run one cable to each of the three dreamboxes. The austar card or sellers card sits in external card reader such as a jaycar, connected to a pc. CS software written for the dream on the pc handles the card requests by each dreambox that are connected to the pc via the dreams built in network connection. Be aware that if your sub card is a V5 it may not work as these cards have deliberate multi emm errors when receiving multiple card requests over a certain time frame. V4.1 and gamma work fine

Jason, slightly off topic, but what is the emm? The reason I ask is I have a satellite card (mantis 1034) ci and a purple cam. occasionally in the monitoring I get some figures beside the emm such as 2 or 5, often 0.
The reason I am looking there is because even with an Austar sub card most programs can not unscramble the stream?, yet the cheap and nasty free viewer software for pc that came with the card works like a charm.

Any thoughts on some reading I should do to try get this card working well? Satellite encryption is a steep learning curve for me..
