Possibly 10th Battalion Gordon Highlanders ? Unfortunately researching British soldiers is much harder than Australian. If it is, here is a brief history of where they went.
10th (Service) Battalion, The Gordon Highlanders was raised in Aberdeen in September 1914 as part of Kitchener's Second New Army and joined 44th Brigade, 15th (Scottish) Division. They trained at Aldershot and in November moved to Midhurst then to Chisledon in March 1915 and to Tidworth for final training in May. They proceeded to France in the second week of July 1915, landing at Boulogne. They were in action in the The Battle of Loos in 1915. In spring 1916, they were involved in the German gas attacks near Hulluch and the defence of the Kink position, suffering heavy losses and on the 11th of May 1916 they amalgamated with 8th Battalion to form the 8/10th Gordons.

10th (Service) Battalion, The Gloucester Regiment ?
They are the only ones that sound possible out of 75 British Divisions.
Are you sure it says 10 batt gr ozchips ? Definately an "r" you think ?
I just had a look through National Archives UK for Jack or John (a lot of Johns got called Jack) Hall in 10th battalions and unfortunately didnt come up with anything.
it is an 'r' for sure mate,i think the next letter my be an 'e', cannot make out the rest, the second word could either be a capital 'H' or a 'B' and I think the 3rd letter of the second word is a 'w' cannot help much from there

These ones dont have a makers mark, but when you wind them out, "military model" is professionally engraved on them.
