Default 'New' channel or just a name change?

In the August now Foxtel printed guide, there is an announcement that Mid August 'W' will change its name and become 'Soho'.
Although I read the blurb, I still have no idea what 'Soho' means except for a slum in London or computerese, Small office,Home office.
Also I have 7 'new channels' for the Olympics it seems, I haven't ordered coverage nor do I take any of the 'Sports' package, so most likely they will become encrypted by Friday at the 'Opening'.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Just a channel revamp from what I read the other day.

Maybe they read my email I sent a couple of years ago asking when M was being launched and if they didnt they were sexist

'W' started off being called something else (Arena?) and as I remember, 'W' was selected as a title to 'Reflect the channels programing orientation for Women'.
Obviously this has changed to whatever 'SoHo' is supposed to represent.

if it's the same as Soho on Sky NZ, it will show pretty much HBO and Showtime stuff (Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Dexter etc)

don't have it at the moment but was a long time Foxtel subscriber on the platinum package, in the past everytime a new channel was announced it seems it meant the repeats from one channel were being shifted to some other channel so people on entry level packages were meant to think there was some new programming happening, on platinum as you had all the channels anyway you found that which ever repeats you wanted to watch were now on some other channel

They really need more programming rather than just shifting stuff around and repeating things constantly

jok11n, the 'NEW' SoHo re badged channel is now called 'W' on 115, +2hrs on 155 and HD 215.
The name changes after Sunday the 19th of August with a content as described by allstarnz's post.
This is part of the Starter/Basic pack for all subscribers.

    Default Movie channels

From what i have heard SOHO is only the start.
End off year the contracts with movie channel and showcase are up and foxtel isn't renewing them.
They going to go direct to some movie companies .
From what they said it looks like they will be offering less movie content.

That might explain to me why the Movie Channels now seem to be advertised more as 'Standalone' programs than before, I just thought it was just the way Foxtel did their advertising.
