The date of 1992 on the clip pre-dates Galaxy, the first Pay TV service, by 3 years.

the 8 digit phone number certainly dates it in one of the adds, and did Cameron Dado really have '5 minutes of Fame' ???
I am sure Galaxy wasn't the first PayTV service, it took over from CETV as I have a letter and complimentary Coasters as a 'gift' for signing up and having to wait a few weeks before it was installed.
Although CETV may well have been trading as Galaxy, that's a possibility
I still have the original contract safely put away 'Somewhere' but I feel that 'Galaxy' barely got it's feet wet before becoming Austar.
I am sure B-Mac had been replaced by Aurora before that and the upfront cost for just the ABC and maybe C7 is what stopped me from having Aurora.
I am sure by the time I signed up, they had dropped the 'Customer Buys the STB and pays for the Installation' and gone for a flat installation fee of $199.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

It was in 1992..long before PayTV started..the service was FTA analogue on B3, and was run by a company that eventually was known as Australis media..who founded Galaxy.

That's interesting because Galaxy never offered it as part of their microwave service. Their first news channel was BBC World News a few months after they kicked off.

Made a bit of an ooooopsy..it's actually from early 1993..not from 1992..my bad.

And yeah..i still have my old Plessey B-Macs (2 of them) and my Dynalink 500 sat box (my first ever..cost me $999 back in 1991)..i love them..they were a big part of my life..and will be forever..even if they are nothing but glorified door stops or boat anchors these days lol

If my memory serves me correctly Gordon, Aurora replaced the old BMAC service in late 96 or early 97. Somewhere at home, I still have my receipt for the first so called digital UEC decoder for Aurora - got a very good discounted price at $899 AUD (the recommended retail was $999).
