Hi everyone
i have three separate villas in BALI that have all got imparja free to air on the bottom floor only what i want to know can i split the signal from downstairs to upstairs without a box and reduction in picture quality to all three villas what gear do i require and tools

splitter to other two villa

that looks like a multi switch, i would get a 8 way switch and replace that 4 way
then you could run the new lines.
dont say linux if i wanted it id install it
To give you a specific answer we need to see a diagram of the system as currently wired.
The splitter you described appears to be a multiswitch. And is only wired for vertical services.
In general:
A modulator attached to a lead that runs upstairs, will create an analog channel carrying whatever station is displayed on your existing box. The modulator needs a composite input from the sat box. There will likely be some loss of quality (but will still look like a pretty much perfectly received analog tv station). The upstairs set will be stuck on whatever station is selected downstairs. This is the simplest way.
You give up, in Bali you get Australian beam overspill. We cant even get NZ beam overspill on the east coast. No chance in hell in Bali.
Finally, you will only be able to use Imparja by the Aurora service for another year and a bit. The VAST service is its replacement, from what I understand the D3 (as opposed to C1) satellite it will eventually move to has less overspill, and you will need to upgrade that dish to a 3-4m dish. Much like the Aurora service, it will need to be authorised under an Australia address, and you can only use a single model of box, which will have to be bought. VAST has not yet (at least publicly) been compromised [ie. No Gold Cards].
Im sure you are already aware, but much like the Aurora service, using VAST in Bali is considered as "naughty".

I got 99 problems and a crimp aint one...
If you have a dreambox at each outlet/TV, I would say that it's a 2 input x 4 output MultiSwitch.
I notice a lead bypassing the MS. Possibly a separate Terrestrial TV.
If so, you could probably replace the 2 x 4 with a 3 x 8 M/S.
That would give you the Satellite and Terrestrial on 6 outlets with 2 spare.
Post a pix of what is written on the Switch label.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

nbound is correct.
Without additional satellite decoders, splitting/distributing the satellite signal is pointless.
To do what you want without additional decoders, either an RF modulated signal or AV cables from the downstairs sat decoder to the upstairs TV is required.
A wireless AV sender/receiver could also be used if the signal will travel upstairs OK, which will largely depend on the device and construction and layout of the building and where the sender/receiver is located.
As mentioned, the upstairs TV will only be able to display whatever the downstairs satellite decoder has selected. (Eg: same channel seen downstairs and upstairs).
The alternative would be to upgrade the multiswitch with more output ports, run coax from it to each of the upstairs locations and add a separate satellite decoder for each upstairs location.
That method would provide fully independent operation of each satellite decoder. (Eg: the same as the 3 downstairs decoders now have... each can select a different channel to each other).
Updrading the multiswitch to a 6/8-way will not create any loss as they contain an amp to overcome distribution losses.
As mentioned though, Aurora's days are numbered and there is some doubt whether VAST will continue to be reliably received at your location in the future.
NZ signals in Bali.... no chance.

Nice idea, mtv, completely slipped my mind. And is a good option as most AV senders have a return channel for a remote.
baliboy, this means the channels can be changed from upstairs via remote.
If you want that functionality from my suggestion, a separate IR transmitter would need to be purchased.

naughty hmmmmmmmmm

thanks yes looked into this option earlier think i will go with another 3 extra boxes can you recommend a good brand with pvr
You may have to stick with the Dreambox in the short term, as when Aurora shuts down, all will be useless in your situation.
Don't listen to the snake oil salesman.
Either wait till the smoke settles, and wait to make the right choice or splurge your ill gotten gains on boxes that no one will warrant for the change over.
any idea how to attach a pdf file of the wiring to a msg
buy a 2x8 spaun multiswitch to replace the one you have and then my more DM500 receivers. This will be the cheapest option.
Leroy
XCRUISER HDSR600HD twin sat and terrestrial receiver $OOS *
XCRUISER HDSR385 Avant - sold out$OOS UltraPlus DVB-T and DVB-S2 tuners $49 Remotes $OOS
As mentioned, Aurora ceases transmissions next year and there is uncertainty if VAST will continue to be reliably received at your location.
There is only one VAST PVR decoder available, the UEC DSD 4121
The VAST decoders cannot be used for any other sat services.
Any additional decoders you install now for Aurora (plus your existing Aurora decoders) cannot be used for VAST, so it's considerable money being spent for only 12 months use.

my multi switch
im not 100% sure but the extra wire going around not into the multi switch is straight from the dish to my third villa would i need to run it through the multi switch to make it work
the single wire in is from the sat dish i presume
and the 3 out is to the decoder i presume
now if i put 2 wires in 1 being the bypass wire
and 6 wires out would that work

leroy have you any dream box avail like the one i have and how much do you have anything simular with pvr where i just plug and play without tuning it in
As you've discovered, it's definitely a multiswitch (not a splitter).
Upgrading to an 8 output will give you additional sat signal distribution for additional decoders, but the rest of the advice about doing it still stands.
also guys when and if it goes to VAST would i be looking at a bigger dish and a whole new setup just putting the feelers out and if it does happen is there anyone out there that could come to bali and set it up for me will pay rtn flight and accom for short visit
