Default Need help aligning satellite to 166E Intelsat 8

Hi all I am trying to find FTA turkish channels broadcast from TVPLUS.
I have had my satellite previously setup for Optus D2 @152E and Optus C1/D3 @156E and now want to setup intelsat 8 @166E. I am unsure what the skew of the lnb should be? also the elevation, I am on the second floor of an apartment block, I have a dreambox dm800 and the tuner configuration settings are:

    Configuration mode: advanced
    satellite: Intelsat8 166
    LNB: LNB1
    priority: Auto
    LOF: user defined
    LOF/L: 10700
    LOF/H: 10700
    Threshold: 11700
    voltahge: polarization
    increased voltage: no
    tone mode: band
    diseqc mode: none
    Tone amplitude: 800mv

when doing the service searching I have entered:

    Frequency: 12286
    Polarisation: Horizontal
    Symbol: 28800
    FEC: 3/4
    Modulation: DVB-S

I have a satellite finder but not quite sure how to use it correctly. Can someone help me find my way over to intelsat 8. Thanks in advance.

while on the service searching screen with those detials and watching the TV so you can see the signal levels.
LNB skew roughly have LNB the conntector pointing at 6pm to start with.
While behind the dish, push it down a little like a couple of mm and also turn it to the right sloooooowly while whatching the TV or someone else watching and yelling if the signal goes up.
When you have something come back and we'll tweak it more.

You don't need a skew on non Optus sats

Elevation is a few degrees lower than D1 (I think)

Use sat finder standing behind the dish with a metre or so fly lead and just keep the needle at 1/2 way on the scale as you move the dish

If you don't need to set the LNB skew then what position do you have the lnb at?

    Same as you .
LNB skew roughly have LNB the connector pointing at 6pm to start with.

You should get a job "proof reading" Leroy

You didn't mention the lnb skew so it's not the same as what I posted so no proof reading required.
The LNB skew is the rotational angle of the LNB so you can't ignore it on non Optus sats.

    Intelsat 8 at 166E
    Good luck with it Marty.
I had to skew the LNB around to get the best reception of the KU frequencies on this Intelsat bird.
Over here in Perth Intelsat 8 is fairly low to the NE. I have all my KU dishes C1, D1 and D2 on our East facing verandah and I had to lift the KU Intelsat 8 satellite dish up a meter to hit the bird. Cheers............David.

    Hi Kamanli,

    Read the topic I started:

I also done the same a few weeks ago to find the FTA Turk channels on IS8. Mine was on Optus D2 originally.
I basically connected a Sat finder to it (cheap Jaycar one), and:
    - Rotated to the right quite a bit
    - Slightly moved it up
    - Tilted the LNB to a '5 o'clock' position as advised by 'MTV' on my topic

Shouldn't be too difficult, took me about 30 minutes, then again I may have just fluked my way. I initially 'ran into' Optus C1, and from there IS8 is very close...

    Good luck!

I havent had much luck locating it, can anyone tell me how much the cheapest sat finder I can buy that will direct me in the right direction (not the cheap squeeling one). I am now also unable to find my way back to C1/D3 i was originally using the predefined setting when searching but have since changed the transponder and dont know which one it was, does anyone know what transponder is needed to be entered?

You can use 12358 H SR27800 for Optus C1. Once you have found it then try find Intelsat 8 again the same way.

Head to the Service serching menu and then into the Satfinder menu There you can enter the channels freq. etc.

You need to have one eye on the TV looking at the sat finder screen (or someone calling out) while moving the dish very slowly. From C1, I8 is down a little and to the right when standing behind the dish.

With the stb and the little screamer sat finder you'll find It In no time. You'll need to set the screamer so it just starts to make a noise. As you sweep the sky it will get loader as it sees a sat. Use the stb to confirm you have the right signal.

This is the best cheap sat meter around.

Most don't display signal quality.. this one does and it will only give you readings when you are on the satellite you've selected.

Thanks Leroy have found Optus C1 again using 12358 H SR27800. Now what should i do to get intelsat8. Can I leave the lnb skew the way it is or do I need to change it? should i start by lowering the elevation first and by how many degrees or how many of the marks on the side of the bracket? then move slowly to the right and how far right?

If your LNB skew has been optimised for Optus D2, then you will need to change it, as IS8/19 is about 40 deg different in skew.

If you are in the eastern states, the LNB output connector on most LNB's will be around the 5 o'clock position for IS8/19.

It's best to set the LNB skew to the approx position before aligning the dish.

Your dish will need to be a little bit lower and moved to the right (from behind the dish).

The exact amount will vary depending on your location and dish used, so it's easiest to just sweep the dish left/right/left til you find signal... lowering the dish a fraction each sweep.

Also, by entering your address into and dragging the marker to where your dish is mounted, will give you an approximate view of the direction your dish should be pointing.

You probably have a transponder frequency that is used by multiple satellites.

If you are tuning Foxtel channels, then you have your dish pointed at C1/D3.

If you want to tune IS8/19 transponders, you need to point the dish at IS8/19.

If you require further help, please post your location, transponder settings in your meter and dish and LNB settings.
