Default 7" Chinese Satnav and ActiveSync

I have a new Chinese iGO8 SatNav with Win CE 6.0
The problem I have is that although ActiveSync was connecting before, it suddenly stopped. I reset the device using the little hole in the back and this fixed it once. Subsequent resets have failed to fix ActiveSync.
    The message is:
"Cannot verify the version of ActiveSync on your device. A program such as a firewall may be blocking a port ActiveSync uses to connect to the device, or you may need to upgrade to a more recent version of ActiveSync on the PC."
The problem is not with the pc as I tried it on another XP pc with the same result.
The solutions I have seen posted all say to make a change to the registry but I can't get access to the registry (using CeRegEditor) unless ActiveSync is working.
Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to get it working?
    Cheers,

I just tried the "hold power button down for 10 seconds" trick and lo and behold it works.
    Thanks jdmtech

Uh Oh. I should have known it was too good to be true. It looks like both reset methods only work once. The problem is as originally stated. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I thought this was the iGO forum. I've searched for hours but although the ActiveSync connect problem comes up frequently there is no clear solution.

Thanks mickc but it's not that simple. The Mass Storage setting does not show the OS files and the ActiveSync setting results in the message (as per my first post).
