    Default Useful CCTV tools

Here are two calculators I have created in excel CCTV.

    1. MPEG Calculator

Use this to determine duration of recording at user defined MPEG compression.

    2. DVR Calculator

Use this to simulate DVR recording duration. User inputs HDD capacity, image size, frames per second and number of camera inputs.

    Hope this helps!

    Sounds great IGeorge,
I hope you didn't spend to much time working on these, as a rule we allow 20gb p/day on mpeg4 compression, At the highest res / best frame rate (25fps)
Some DVR"s out there differ, but when our sales guys quote thats the rule!
How many cameras- where do you want them
How many days footage- if its liquor establishment, then its min 30 days for licensing.
HOW MUCH DO YOU INTEND ON SPENDING........

One of the dvrs I have used with the latest version of s/ware has an inbuilt calculator and does h.264, allowing us to get 3 times the amount of footage on this compression setting and its the same quality. 45 days on 1.5 tb- compared to 12 days on the same HDD Space

Thanks for the feedback AusSec, I know there are plenty of DVR's with these features built in. I made these tools years ago to help with quoting systems. I would ask the customer how many cameras they would like, how long they would like the archive to be and quality of the footage i.e frame rate and image size. Once these figures were collected I would then know my DVR would need to have "x" amount of HDD space and in most cases these figures were in the TB range.

There is still a use for these calculators and I want other members to feel free to use these thats the reason of the post.

    Cheers

    Appreciate your post.

Dont know about others but I'm a little nervous about downloading files from an unknown source. If it's possible - how about posting the basics in plain English on the forum for us all to see ?

They are MS Excel files, all you need to do is type in the figures and it does all the mathematics. (formulas etc)

PM your email I can send it there if you like (Virus Free)

No worries, good to see input from individuals instead of continual sledging and trolling !

I have 16 cameras on a hotel establishment with 3 x 500gb hdd's, it runs for 42 days, Very busy site to. I hate to imagine anything larger
    Res 720x576
15 - 25 fps per camera depending on priority
Max quality recording, as I don't believe in selling something that ONLY half does the job. You could have 520 tvl cameras and only recording at the DVR's best , waste of money

CCTV basics is back, I still think we need a separate CCTV only folder.

Why prey tell. The Title speaks for itself.

That'd be like Middy asking for a "Private security section for installers only", which will never be approved.

I got heaps to post on CCTV, just thought it would be better to separate so it doesn't get lost amongst the CK236 threads
