    Hi all,

We've done a series of tests on the oscilloscope and have come to the conclusion the Voltage Multiplier that powers the CRT is faulty, so my options are

1 - does anyone know if can get a generic part from anywhere in Aust?

2 - I can rebuild the multiplier as the individual components are still readily available ( see circuit diagram) the only problem with rebuilding the multiplier is removing the resin that the unit is encased in

    3- use it as doorstop

Use X55 (pure petrol without the additives) to remove the potting mixture.

Have you contacted Emona Instruments as they are the importers and distributors.

Yes I have which is what i forgot to mention in my last post, I'm waiting on a call from them to see if the multiplier is still available.

I'm not holding my breath about that as the model is approx 25 yrs old.

but thanks for tip about pure petrol, i was considering investing in a dremel.

    Hi all,

I'm just about to start re-building the voltage multiplier for this scope, one of the two resistors within the multiplier is a 10Mohm wire-wound........

am I asking for trouble if I replace the wire-wound resistor with a same value 10Mohm carbon resistor considering the very high voltages of the mutiplier?

    Hi osci,

Do you have a service manual you could email on to me and how did you get on repairing / replacing the voltage multiplier?

I have GW GOS 542 which has recently developed an issue with the trace fading right out a few minutes after switch on which I suspect as a HV problem.

A a handy tip high purity paraffin wax make a very use friendly potting compound. Indeed the early EHT transformer over winds were wax impregnated.

    Cheers,

    Hi osci
I just buy a GOS 543 oscilloscope out of use, and I hope to repair it. I need diagram, but i didn't find them on the Web. I read your post (2012...) on this forum I tried to dos as you and sent an email to GW and they answered "Unfortunately, your device is too old and we don’t have schematics for it anymore and cannot offer support." . You are my last possibility : please, would you send me diagrams of this scope ?

    Best regards
