It Evolution my Dear Sir, with each Rejuvenation the Dr moves to a different Galactic tune and responds accordingly.
I've been ploughing my way back through the original Drs, Currently half way through Tom Baker Years. They are certainly a lot slower moving than the current set, though I wasn't so taken with episode 1 of this series. The dinosaurs were a good pick, though. I was thinking half way through it though, how the character of the doctor has changed over the years. The new doctors are far less cerebral, and more "active", than Baker, Pertwee et. al.

I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Statistically, if you wait long enough, everything will happen!
@gordon, I am aware of that, it was an observation, that is all. I quite enjoy the new series.
Isemmens It was a Joke Mate, after all, the rejuvenation is one of the few things that makes the character believable and allows cast and story line changes to occur virtually seamlessly when other series have had an other actor take over a lead role, it has been very disconcerting to the audience.
By this method, 'Dr Who' can then use the new characteristics of the 'NEW' Doctor to full advantage.
When you think about it, its a clever concept that has kept the series running now for 49 years and each 'Doctor' is both Remembered and Revered in the context of their own 'Time'.

Quite enjoying this discussion, having seen all 49 years worth of episodes so far.
OK, so Who's your favourite Doctor Who
My favourite has always been Tom Baker, however, I did like Christopher Eccleston & David Tennant, now Matt Smith is starting to grow on me.
I guess it comes down to the script writers & producers to get the best character out of the Actor, though the Actor has to develop his own slant on the character as well.
I'll stick with Tom Baker for the moment.
Here is a list if you can't remember them all.
The Doctor Portrayed by
1963–66
1966–69
1970–74
1974–81
1981–84
1984–86
1987–89, 1996
1996
2005
2005–10
2010–present

Baker, then Pertwee. Troughton is getting a little hazy in my mind's eye (stupid BBC for throwing stuff out!). After Baker (classic series) things really took a nosedive IMO. McCoy started to pick it up again but then the axe fell.

I'm with SpankedHam, there, Baker, Pertwee, the subsequent doctors did not do it justice, although the new series, Eccleston, et. al. have done the concept proud. IIRC there was a limit to the number of regenerations a Time Lord could undergo, but somehow, the Doctor was able to circumvent that. Can't remember when this occurred now.
I think the rejuvenations limits was magically overcome by the continuation of funding for the show.
It seems the Yanks are investors now and I was really surprised when the BBC pulled out of the sale to US interests citing they didnt like the concepts offered.
Maybe they had bad memories of Till Death Us do Part and Steptoe and Son that became All in the Family and Sandford and Son, each a shadow of the original show.
The BBC like our ABC does bore you senseless but when they do grab the Brass Ring, it becomes Gold.
Like the Peau Beau ad used to say, 'When your on a Good Thing, Stick to It !!'

Orig Series Tom Baker
New Series David Tennant - still taking a while to warm to Matt Smith.
Hey Tiny, what about fave companions?? I quite liked some of them 8-) ...plus another to come that's a stunner...
Also Funny bit of info - David Tennant is married to Peter Davidson's daughter (Georgia Moffett) who played The Doctor's (Tennant) daughter in an episode, (and she was smoking hot).
Hi. Saw the very first show! As we were all 'so unsophisticated', in those days, it held the same degree of excitement/terror as it does today. My vote - Hartnel and Tennant. Never mentioned, but do I recall, Peter Butterworth as one of the Doctors?

Here's the current series ladies....with ratings..
Rose -over rated, funny lisp when you rewatch her episodes, and big lips.
Martha - Loved her, smart, athletic, stylish and hot chocolate.
Donna - Absolutely couldn't stand her at the start, but the by the end I really didn't want to let her go - Donna was great, plus a giant Ginger.
Amy - Firey Ginger Minx. Bit skinny, but makes up for it other ways...Keeps the Doctor guessing.
Oswin - who is a Dalek and not umm a companion umm. Smoking hot with a wit to match...more Oswin please..
Tiny (23-09-12)
And here's a quick Cameo from Captain Jack - my fave dude pasher from Torchwood hehe
I cant see any reason why 'Oswin' cant re appear now thats 'she's' a Dalek as after all, dont the Daleks move between the physical being and cybernetics with their 'Collective' memories?
Even better chance if her appearances 'PULL' (pun intended) the audiences attention and push the rating up.
