    Default Roku vs Apple tv

As there is more talk about these boxes each day.
Is there a preference of one over the other.
I know the latest atv3 can't be jb so a atv2 would have to be sourced.

Roku vs Apple tv (or other boxes)
    Pros and Cons?

    Thanks.

I personally use a Boxee Box. It has a stand alone browser, which it appears the Roku and Apple TV do not have. I use the browser for internet radio, but it's also handy for adding other software to the Boxee. You would not need to jailbreak the Boxee or anything. There's third party repositories you can add. But there are also apps already available on it, like YouTube and whatnot. I have never used an Apple TV or Roku, but from what I've read, the Boxee has slightly more features. I really like the QWERTY remote too. The only downside is it's a bit more expensive than Apple TV and Roku.

On Dodo internet Roku picture for Netflix is much better than Appletv using same bandwidth.

I would be going with the Roku bulk buy over an apple.

One thing I learnt the other day, the Roku can be powered through the HDMI cable, drawing power from the tv.

You have to wait a few seconds for it to boot up after you've turned the tv on. With the remote being whatever it is (bluetooth?) it means you can stick the box out of the way.

I think they sell a mount for the back of the tv but I've just got it stuck there with a bit of that sticky stuff they use for the 3M hooks.

I have an ATV2 and will get a Roku.

What I like about the ATV2 is the menus are easy ie wife friendly, I also noted that the Youtube App playback thru the ATV2 is far superior than the Youtube playback on my Samsung TV App.

The remote isn't bluetooth which shits me a little,

The other good thing is you can from your phone show photos on the big tv via atv (apple phone) also stream from ipod.

We used to love 1channel and Icefilms but now find alot of satisfaction with Netflix.

Thanks for the tip! Did not realize it could be hdmi powered

Oh and to answer the OP, Roku all the way definitely

I have a roku 2 XS setup with Playon running on my fileserver & this takes care of most of my streaming TV needs. Plus Plex client is top stuff for local media on my network
