Not sure if many of you wil find this noteworthy but ATS have confirmed they willl not the Foxtel(Austar) contract. Downer and BSA will be the only 2. Time frame is suggested for between christmas and new year.

Do you have a link to where this was announced?
It would seem ATS could not negotiate a financially viable deal with Foxtel.
That should make things interesting, given that techs are leaving both Downer and BSA in droves, due to their poor employment conditions.
I would expect some ATS installers will join which of the two contracting companies is allocated to their former Austar area, but realistically, I think they'll be struggling to provide sufficient installation techs, so former Austar customers may face very lengthy delays for installation and fault service.

What about Hills/Techlife who were/are doing the current VAST/Terrestrial Digital changeover, are they part of either those two or a separate entity?
The big problem is with the current economic situation would be for an Installer to stay with these companies despite the poor conditions, obviously look elsewhere but where as jobs of any sort arent that plentiful contrary to political proclamations or simply go on the dole.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
Foxtel only wanted 2 contracting companies (for domestic work), so one of them was always going to go. Apparenty they want 2 companies in any area at the same time, so contractors will have to choose(or the companies) which one to work for - if any.
Yes the techs I know that have worked for D or B say it was more difficult than with ATS and will probably lead to and oversuplly of FTA businnesses in the next year or so
Seeing as it is already out in public, I can confirm that the news is posted in the ATS "Contractor Information System" portal. (And has been since Monday)
ATS should still be providing services to Foxtel up until the last quarter of next year during the handover period.
There is of course a bit more info than what I am saying here, but I cant really go into details anymore than I have for obvious reasons.
But the main news as per the first post in this thread I can 100% confirm is correct.

I was speaking to an Austar installer a month or so prior to the takeover. Quite generous packages were being offered to installers at the time to attract them to the area and try to keep them. Despite that it seems that installers would quickly realise it was a mugs job and head west to the mines to find more attractive pay. Even with the current employment drop in the mining industry (no doubt short lived) I wonder how things will turn out now that it's down to Downer/BSA.
