    Default LG 68cm CRT

I have a LG CRT TV, that currently displays 'coloured rings'. What i mean by this, is that a picture is still shown on the TV, but the colour scheme is all messed up by these red blue green rings that exist over the top of the picture distorting the colour scheme.
It once before displayed these rings which I believe were due to placement of fairly large floorstanding JBL speakers that sat near it (Magnetism?). Powering the TV off for a day or so fixed it, and it only ever appeared about 3 times prior to this.
I tried to degauss the screen in the menu but for whatever reason wont allow me to.
Can this be easily solved, or is it destined for the scrap yard?

Sounds like you need to degause it using a degausing wand. It has a higher magnetic field then the TV set's inbuilt one. Have a chat to your local repairer.

Your spot on Leroy with the degauser
But worse case scenario is if you have dropped the TV
and the shadow mask has moved inside the tube and then there is no hope

No probs guys, thanks for the replys. I figured that a degaussing wand was needed, hence the reason i tried to 'degauss' in the menu but it shows the degauss as 'off' with no way to switch it on

PS the TV hasnt been knocked around or dropped..

You sure about that? With the amount of heat my plasma gives off, I would've thought it's more smoke and mirrors

HE HE, i used to tell customers "buy a plasma, get a free heater"

just think of all those dollars floating away in heat.

I'd still check the degaussing posistor. Some go permanently open, some attempt to continuously make and break creating noise on the screen and others blow the fuse. I have had a run of these over the years. Especially Samsung, Teac, Palsonic to name a few and you can bet the farm that a non-working Optima monitor has blown the fuse because the posistor has turned into a nail.

Easy indication that the PTC has turned into a nail - take it out of the board, shake it and listen - if it rattles then it's toast.

Probably need to top up the Plasma fluid and remember all appliances run on smoke, if the smoke starts to leak out, ya can't get it back in it is stuffed.

Everyone knows you have to re-gas a plasma every year like you do to your air-conditioner.
What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?
