    Default Faxing and the Internet

I have at home a land line, a mobile and cable internet.
I'm considering dropping the Land line and just using my mobile but I have, on occasion, the need to send faxes.
For these jobs I use the Fax function in my Canon MX850 printer to which the land line is connected.

Is it possible to do away with the land line yet still send a fax from the MX850. Although it's not connected at the moment the MX850 is network capable, at the moment I use a USB connection to connect the printer to the PC.

    any advice appreciated - thanks
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

Not a wonderful idea. I have experimented with sending faxes over VOIP and the results are variable. Over all, I found it to extremely unreliable. I haven't yet tried a fax plan from one of the Voip providers. For instance, I know MNF were offering such a plan which was apparently using some Windows Software to send faxes.

I will be interested in others experiences.

I guess one way would be something like , it's fine if you are manufacturing the document on your PC.

You need to set the codec to one of the G711 types for FAX over VOIP.
Standard is G729 which limits bandwidth too much for FAX.

Have you considered using online faxing options? I know using PamFax you can send a certain amount for free, and you can get a number to receive faxes at. I have one, but I haven't tried using it yet.
