DVD Player/ Burner problem ??

Although this Lite-On isnt a computer, the components are.
I posted in another forum of a problem with a Lite-On LVW5045 HDD/DVD Recorder/burner telling me some (region 4) DVD's were invalid.
It seems to want to play other regions on 'Region Free' but not region 4.
It doesnt want to play Region 4 on Region 4 setting either.
After reading Videohelp on this machine it appears from posted comments the DVD unit could be at fault and not as I thought a software problem.
I opened the Lite-On and the HDD is a standard Seagate 160 GB unit.
I did note the jumper is on the 'Cable Select' pins.
The DVD player/Burner had no Hard case but a soft tin cover for shielding.
The external label reads DVD/CD Rewritable Drive, model DDW-813S with Lite-On IT corp on one end.
But the motherboard is marked SONY but I cant see a clear model number'
It has a standard IDE cable and 4 wire power connection.

Anyone familiar with this model DVD player or maybe a compatible one to replace it with?
Also anyone with a contact address for any dealer/agents for Lite-On in OZ wouldnt hurt.
