    Default Foxtel and Dreambox

I was wondering if I purchased a Dreambox could I put my smartcard in it and watch Foxtel as sort of a BYOB (Bring your own Box) solution.

I have a current Foxtel subscription with a box but I want to record with out upgrading to IQ.

It doesnt matter what you believe, facts speak louder than words. Many people would subscribe if they could use their own receiver, the fact is you cant.

The only non standard receivers you can use with Foxtel are the XBox 360, the Telstra T Box and newer Samsung Smart TV's capable of running the Foxtel application.

Governments and Industry spend Hundreds of Millions of $$$$'s on encryption systems to keep what is theirs, THEIRS !!!!
They are in business to MAKE money, not to see it ferreted away by some back yarder with computer smarts.
No code or encryption is unbreakable given time and effort.
The easiest, fastest and simplest way is to get the codes direct from within which depending which story you believe is how Iredeto was 'broken' some years past.
Then there was the 'Card Shaving' by a MAJOR company whose Anti Piracy stance was legendary, untill they were caught being ever so slightly naughty.
From what I have read and understand older encryption systems werent really very flexible to combat incursions but thats all changed because more people have access to computers now and those using/needing encryption had to move to keep ahead of the game.
I dont think anyone using Austech would be thrilled to find they have been the victims of Identity fraud, had their bank accounts emptied or billed for services or products they didnt make so its no different to hacking the PayTV providers or anyone else even if they are selling an overpriced product.

The future is streaming. Geographical restrictions are dead, though it is taking a long while for the Media Companies and most of the public to realise it. Foxtel will be forced to either adapt or fail. Adapting will mean significantly cheaper prices and consequently lower revenue. Their new competitors will be Netflix, Hulu, Vudo and the like.

Best of luck to Foxtel. They are going to need it.
