    Default Nrma Diy Alarms

Now here's the slap in the face. We are LEGALLY obliged to get licences to work on security systems, Master licence (Self Employed) Security Licence & ACMA Licence. Hundreds if not Thousands of dollars later, only to find out one of the biggest insurers is offering DIY alarm systems to it's customers. And if you like, after YOU install it they can send someone out to check it for you. Are these guys for real?

Here we are trying to control and regulate the industry, and the wise people at NRMA just opened the flood gates.

It would get very interesting should a claim arise from a non conforming install. I wonder whether they would knock back a claim especially since they would have some sort of involvement. I would also bet that the other insurance companies might have a problem with it since they would not be directly involved.

I thought you legally had to have a cabling ticket to even run cables in your own house?
Nice site by the way George, you get to play with all the good toys.
What happens if I press alt + F4?

When I was doing my OPEN cablers licence there were guys on the course doing the restricted licence for exactly that purpose, especially Owner Builders. I just can't wait for the proverbial to hit the fan, interested in seeing where ACMA will actually stand on this issue.

I wish that were the case, thanks to the 10x Interest Rate rises in the time I have been operating, people are backing off the luxuries. I'm finding it hard to push structured wiring. I don't understand home owners, they won't part with a little extra $$ when building a new home to future proof it. Builders are still running the bare minimum of 1 to 2 Telephone outlets, 1 to 2 TV outlets and power.

    Not good to hear.
I am building a house atm and around the bottom of quite a few walls still has no plaster as I think of more stuff to jam in there
A bit of planning on my part would have made things much easier, but I have had a lot on my plate.
I should have just ducted the whole lot from the start.

NRMA has been planning this for some time, rest assured there will be no legal issues with licensing or ACMA that hasn't been addressed 12 months ago.

It's a plug and play system, all wireless.

It's been tried before and failed. They have misjudged their customer base.

Besides, if the distributor was to shut up shop in Australia, just where are they going to buy the equipment from?

does anyone know what brand their using this time, or is it going to be an imported no-name rebrand.
They have used quite a few different brands to date since they first started.

I was subcontracting to One Watch before they went bust, they were using the one panel, DSC PC1864 wireless and hard wired panels. On NRMA's website they show a re- randed DSC LCD Icon Keypad, so I'm guessing they are still tied up with DSC.
