I used windows 2000 server with one way satellite running a website and mail server for a few years.
Downloads via sat, uploads via modem....an absolute piece of shit by Telstra.

But you need two pcs to do it....one as a satellite gateway...the other acting as the router.

If you want to go a dedicated machine to do the internet have a look at smoothwall

It is linux, really easy to setup and has some really great features. It also works with USB modems.

Have you got a firewall running? Normally the ICS thing is a walk in the park to set up.

How about selecting the USB connection icon (in connections window) and select the network card icon for the card/connector that is in the same PC. Once both are highlighted then right click on one and choose to bridge both those connections.

Now you can run a cable from your PC to a switch (etc.) and share the internet connection. Oh make sure the firewall is disabled while you set this up.

Ensure you only have one DHCP 'server' though.
