    Default does anyone know how to make w_scan use an LNB setting of 10700???

    Hi all,

    I'm stuck again. I am trying to scan a the optus satellite with w_scan.

    w_scan only offers me the following LNB settings
    Code:
    UNIVERSAL
    	Europe
    	10800 to 11800 MHz and 11600 to 12700 Mhz
    	Dual LO, loband 9750, hiband 10600 MHz
    DBS
    	Expressvu, North America
    	12200 to 12700 MHz
    	Single LO, 11250 MHz
    STANDARD
    	10945 to 11450 Mhz
    	Single LO, 10000 Mhz
    ENHANCED
    	Astra
    	10700 to 11700 MHz
    	Single LO, 9750 MHz
    C-BAND
    	Big Dish - Monopoint LNBf
    	3700 to 4200 MHz
    	Single LO, 5150 Mhz
    C-MULTI
    	Big Dish - Multipoint LNBf
    	3700 to 4200 MHz
    	Dual LO, 5150/5750 Mhz
    I understand now that none are right for us. So, does anyone know of how to make w_Scan take a different number? Or maybe know a more AU friendly scanner for linux?

    So looking here:

    the guy says he used -l 10700. that also worked for me and i got 243 services back.

    i am trying to use dvbstream to extract the tpids (they are unencrypted)

    so i run something like this:

    dvbstream -c 1 -f 1235800 -p H -s 27800 -o 1056 1076 1086 1106

    which i can see does:

    tuning DVB-S to Freq: 1235800, Pol:H Srate=27800000, 22kHz tone=off, LNB: 0, SLOF 11700, LOF1: 9750, LOF2: 10600

    That seems right.

    Funny things is i'm seeing the wrong subtitles on some frequencies ... for instance when i try and extract the titles from MTV which came back as:

    MTV;Foxtel:12598:hC34M2O0S0:S156E0:27800:1091=2:10 92=eng:1096:604,90B,96C:5009:4096:5:0:1099

    i wind up seeing the subtitles for Lifestyle +2, which is:

    LifeStyle +2;Foxtel:11969:hC34M2O0S0:S156E0:27800:1091=2:109 2=eng:1096:604,90B,96C:18009:40960:1099

    Is this an LNB problem? Any ideas how this could happen.

    G'Day Cobber.
    You seem to be confused how Local Oscillator Frequencies work.

    The decoder input on each Satellite in the Installation Menu must be the same as written on the LNB.
    You can't mix and match.
    Universal has 2, 09750 & 10600 with a change over at 11700.
    A Single or Twin 10700, has only one, 10700
    There is also an 11300 single.
    Most decoders have a range of 0950 to 21500.
    They then calculate the Satellite Transponder Frequency from what you have entered as the LOF.

    ok makes sense. so now i can get my scans to work :-) ... next i use dvbstream and it seems to need to be tuned to the right lnb as well ... i just need to work out how ... thank you for the excellent help!

    Great, now you also need to be aware that there is ~45 degree difference in the LNB Skew between Optus and other Satellites. That controls the polarity of the signals. That is the twist of the LNB in it's holder.
    Each polarity is available 180 degrees apart and can be received as the opposite polarity at 90 and 270 degrees.

    It is also dependent principally on your Longitude. Needs tweaking for optimum signal.

    Just remember than an LNB is only a very sophisticated amplified antenna that requires it to be 'matched' to the STB's tuner so it can receive the signal from the Satellite.
    Ku band seems to use either 10.7 or 11.3 while C band is 3 to 5 Mhz range or Universal.
    Until very recently Foxtel/Austar used 11.300 but apparently this doesnt quite cover the frequencies they wanted to use so so they were replaced with the 10.700 LNB's.
    I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
