The mini note is a much nicer design and build quality but from what I hear the via processor really lets it down. Personally I'd be waiting for an Atom version of the HP or something like the MSI Wind, Dell MiniNote or the Acer Atom based UMPC that should all be out in the next couple of months.

That being said the Dell Vostro 1200's start at $650 so I think one of those is much better value as its a slightly bigger screen and better performing cpu whilst still being very portable....

Don't under rate a solid state hard drive. It lends a robustness to the design and provides for speed which belies the processor's power.

And it encourages 'lite' rather than fat software deployment.

I've an XP Pro installation (nLite'd) on a 900, that gives the Google page via Firefox and wireless in 40 seconds from 'on' button; with a good smattering of handy applications and a full Open Office org install ..... all in 1.5Gb .... and I've still got 18Gb free.

..... and video skype purrs along.

    So.

Like all these things it's horses for courses. I wanted fast, light and robust, fandtm666 wants touchscreen and you want ...... ?

    Here's a ruff side by side .

The Asus Eee PC 901 weighs 1.1kg and has 802.11n WiFi connection. The RAM, which was initially rumoured to be 2GB, is actually just 1GB. The most notable spec, however, seems to be the mini-note’s battery life which registers at an astonishing 7.8 hours. The lengthy battery life is attributed to the new Asus Super Hybrid Engine GUI technology which provides the laptop with three different modes that vary based on LCD brightness, voltage, and CPU frequency.

Hardly a list of resource onerous tasks; as long as you have a bit of ram.

My veteran PIII 500 can do that ..... with headroom
