Default USA Garmin 2555LM - upgrade with Oz maps?

    Hi
Bought a USA 2555 with lifetime maps. Hasn't been registered.
Anyone know if it cam be upgraded to Aussie maps via the lifetime upgrade thing?

If not then where does it hide the base map now?
No SD card and no hidden .System folder. Searching for gmapprom finds nothing but BaseCamp finds it with that name.

    Any idea anyone?

You could ask Garmin AU if they would honor the lifetime map updates, like to here their reply.

Don't delete your basemap, gmapprom.img is your USA map.

Alternatively read my tutorial particularly post #1 & #4

    Then find latest map here

Yeah, I sent them an email asking that a few days ago but no reply yet.

Can't delete the base map as its hidden.
There is no .system drive in these. The main part of the OS does not map as a drive, its completely hidden from explorer.

Just read your post 4 link. Perfect, exactly the info I need. If Garmin won't honour the lifetime maps internationally then I'll replace the image.
Thanks for the menu info. I'd have been sunk without that.

    Just remember, don't delete gmapbmap.img.

The USA road map will be gmapprom.img, copy it & everything else to a safe place as a BACKUP, in case anything goes wrong like a blackout in the middle of file transfer.

If there is enough room on the GPS internal memory, you can put the Unlocked City navigator AU & NZ map in the GPS internal memory without replacing the USA map by renaming the AU map to gmapsupp.img before you transfer it to the GPS.
Then you can turn off/Disable the USA map in the menu until you go there.

    Thanks Tiny.

Do you know anything about getting the USA GTM25 or 35 traffic receivers to work in Aus?
Looks like they are coded to a specific country (USA in my case) but maybe there's a way to change that.
Garmin Oz simply say buy a new one.

I reckon Garmin are right, the receiver frequency would be different.

Garmin advise that the lifetime update feature only applies to whatever bas map the unit was originally supplied with.

Pity they don't tell you that before you buy one.

I do actually remember reading somewhere on their Australian website that they do not support the purchase of GPS from other countries or by auction.

I have an Etrex handheld that I bought from an online store located in Tasmania that I had to push very hard to have repaired when it failed under warranty because the store was selling USA imports, I ended up having to post the unit to Canada & thankfully Garmin replaced the unit, albeit with another USA model.
