Hey guys, I haven't been on for a while now, I hope everyone is doing great.
I want to buy my 5 year old son a gaming console, but don't know which to go for, PS3 or Xbox, which one is better? and which one can be easily modded to play backup games?

I own both and would go for the Xbox RGH, easier to load games and your son will be able to work it out easier.

Well, since you wanna mod it im gonna say Xbox 360. Plus the graphics are far superior to the PS3's. But you're gonna have to pay for online subscriptions, which i guess is not gonna be that big of a deal, since you are planning on modding it.

Xbox 360 for sure. After my friends and I got the annoying Red Ring of Death, we all decided to get our consoles modded. after a quick google search, we found many people who would mod our console for a small fee. It is more than worth it, as you will be getting many games. After you download one game, the cost of the modification has already been recovered. I remember hearing about PS3 mods and how they were unstable or very limited. So, if your looking at it from a modders perspective, I would say 100% go with the Xbox 360.
For a 5 year old child I would recommend the wii. I think that they will have much more fun on the wii. However if your mind is set on either the Xbox or the PS3. I would personally go for PS3 but since it is for a 5 year old child, a better option would have to be an Xbox.
seeing as this thread was started on th 11th of November 2012 i would think the choice was made a long time ago.
but just in case hes held out this long, id be waiting for the next gen consoles at the end of the year.

Hi there! Its very nice to meet you. My name is Kendra and I'am a new member on this forum. To answer your Question, I have used both Game systems and find the XBOX to be the better deal. I say this because XBOX has many features and a better view than the Playstation 3. I had to get rid of my Playstation because it kept making noises and this was a few days after purchasing it. I highly prefer the XBOX, hope this helps!
The Xbox is more easily modifiable, but the Playstation store has more child friendly games on it. If I were you I'd buy an Xbox just for the ability to mod it. You can also get a really great deal these days on it.
Next gen consoles.. And Playstation definitely . As mentioned by andrew172 more mods on the XBox but I am not a fan or its controller and I just like the PS you put the game in and it works. No mods needed.
Neither. PC all the way! You just can't beat modded games. The community is generally so much more fun to play with and less serious as well.
Generally I've seen kids do better with Wii's then I have with large consoles mostly because of the controllers being too big for their small hands. I would either go with a Wii/Wii U or a PC because either way you get the best options.
I'd go a Wii U. It's (relatively) cheap compared to the other options, and it's designed with kids in mind. Plus, Nintendo Land is quite a fun game for families. All the Wii homebrew works as well, so you can load emulators for older consoles.
He's 5. He won't know how to play them much less how to appreciate them. Buy a PC for yourself and pass it on to him when he is older and you have the money for a new one to replace it. You can't really pass on old consoles anymore since they stop being supported.
