    Default Keyboard and Mouse Problems

I have a 3 year old computer with a AMD processer and ASUS motherboard.

The system does not recognise the mouse or keyboard when plugged into the dedicated sockets at the rear of the computer.

When I plug them into the USB ports then everything works fine.

Is it a motherboard problem? A software problem? A BIOS problem?

The +5V rails to the PS2 sockets have fusible links feeding them - in case the socket gets shorted out somehow. If the PS2 settings in the BIOS don't fix it chances are the fusible links may have gone O/C.

    Thanks for the replies.

I can get into the bios by using the DEL key on the USB keyboard (microsoft) but can not navigate the menus using the arrow keys so I cant check if the ps2 is disabled.

If I disconnect the battery (assuming there is one) will the bios go to the default settings?

If it is a fusible link that is the problem then can this be repaired?
