Question New PC build periodically shuts down

Recently purchased a near new Mobo and Ram with 2nd hand AMD processor .

Boots fine, processor runs at 41 degrees and then after 10 minutes or longer just shuts down.

Initially it was rebooting immediately but no now until it is left for a while.

I only have the hard drive plugged in to the Mobo and nothing else.

Does it restart by itself after it crashes ?

Did you check the manual and see if the ram you got is on the compatibility list ?

    Thanks micksv
Initially it restarted but not now.

This is the board GA-78LMT-S2P and this is the ram kvr1333d3n9/4g

Which appears to be suitable .

Does it have a couple of sticks of ram in it marty or just one ?

It it has a couple, try removing one and see if the problem still exists with the existing one. And vice versa with the other stick.

Try what Sanity said. Another will be to have a look at the bios and turn off any CPU enhancements.

Did you try another PSU ??

I have forgotten to plug in the ATXP4 4 pin power plug to the MB in the past and that caused the same fault, but normally the MB wont power up but sometimes it does a random reboot if forgotten

I was gonna suggest what Sanity and MicksTV said about the swapping Ram.
There is a Freeware Program called CoreTemp.
It displays the temperature of the CPU.
Just was wondering what the temp was at shutdown is all.

EDIT; Oh Yeah - On My Computer it wasn't the actual RAM stick what was faulty - it was the socket it plugs into.
    Have you tried another socket?
My socket had corrosion on the fingers.
Coulda been cockroach piss or anything - these things happen.
I remember my missus power supply blew up when one of her cockroaches wandered between 2 tracks with 350Volts difference between them.

sadly some of them cheap giga boards are flakey, ive gone to asus or asrock after many crappy gigabyte boards
boot it to the bios, load default settings,
reboot, back to bios, leave it running in bios mode for a hr, does it still crash?

    yes its hard to say
is it mobo? psu? ram? cpu? h-drive? 5 variables
id even grab a old hdd, hook up a dvd & boot to a xp or 7 cd\dvd, if it crashes still its not the hdd

i know its been said that the cpu runs at 41 degrees but i would be checking that, had a dud cpu that did what you are saying, also just to be sure make sure the heat sink making good contact with some good thermal paste.

I am currently seeing how long it runs on bios alone as I have unhooked the hard drive.

    Reports will follow.

cool, even try that one if its not valuable
could just be a windows error
did you do a clean install last time? or did you just plug a hard drive in with windows on it?
make sure you boot to the cd\dvd, and delete the partition or all of them 1st so you can quick format the drive.

Can you try to shut power off, unplug the hdd cable for 30 seconds, plug it back and try to boot again?
I had very simillar experience with the hdd connector on the mb.
