    Default Freeview Australia

So has anyone else noticed this......

Seinfeld being shown on two network channels now, 7mate and GO. Now that's a joke.

The freeview logo should be changed to Less for Free

Even worse, Seven has shifted the Tennis to Seven Two and thus removing anything watchable from their Network.

They did the same thing last year also.

I used to also watch American Pickers, Cash Cowboys and Pawn Stars. But have given up because they have started repeating episodes from a month ago.

Surely these networks have more content available to them, that they could run.

its out of ratings period at the moment , so this may change in a few months.

Freeview is only another method of selling advertising space anyway

Its not just because of the non ratings period. Its been happening for at least 12 months with the networks just showing something over and over on their other channels.

I only watch sport on fta so its not a big deal for me but i do think that once everyone has access or is at least forced to digital via the analog switch off it will improve. Not sure how much better it will get but i cant see them wasting content for a until at least the majority of viewers have the ability to watch.

People think that more channels equals more variety which is why the recent announcement that there wont be a 4th Network doesnt bother me at all.
Back in 1988 my area went from a 2 channel (ABC/Commercial) to 4 channels (ABC/7,9,10, no SBS) and everyone was jumping for joy untill they realised that all the GOOD shows they had seen on one channel were now spread over 3 and in competition with each other along with the many hours of rubbish that fills in the gaps between the few good programs.
3 Years ago in analog we had 3 Commercial and the ABC and SBS but now in most markets, including VAST we have 19 Digital Channels available.
The only ones who really do have variety are those who before Digital only had 2 channels and hadnt seen before the mishmash being screened now.

Take note, the only offer made in changing to Digital was the QUALITY of the signal, certainly NOT the content would improve and I believe the Channels have lived up to that offer (lousy content) spectacularly well.
Dont worry about repeats as PayTV is doing the same and has anybody noticed just how many shows like Storage Wars, Pawn Stars etc on A&E are on FTA ?

Of course extra channels wont add extra good content... The networks already buy up all the beat overseas programming... All other good o/s content is locked up in exclusive deals... Or is niche and only bought as filler to top up numbers while the primary channel runs the popular program.

A new commercial station will bring maybe an extra series or two... An australian series or two... And the rest divided from the pool of the othee stations and some more niche filler.

Dont get me wrong i normally choose the niche filler content over the boring popular show and would welcome a new station

Personally I don't really care much for new programming.

What happened to all the TV shows produced during the 80's and 90's etc, does FTA miss out on this because Foxtel runs the content ?

I think there is a lull before something becomes nostalgic... You can only watch friends or early simpsons a finite number of times

All it does is push people into finding other viewing options I.E. Foxtel, Netflix or downloading content.

So MASH in HD The thunderbirds and a heap of 1970's type shows on the HD channels something more current should be shown on the HD channels and the 1970's type shows on a SD channels.

5 channels of tennis football on the same network

come on FTA get your ACT together

The TV channels run programs only to fill in the gaps between advertising because they cannot advertise 24/7.
It is quite obvious that there are very very few shows that advertisers clamor to pay to run their advertising on, rather the channels just sell the time and the avertisers couldnt care less what it is on.
Even the advertisers now are running adverts made totaly overseas to cut costs so you can forget any ideas of there being more than the barest minimum of local content screened than is required by their licensing requirements.

It also seems that now that we have more channels, most of them are full of "home shopping" type shows after midnight anyway. I do most of my viewing later at night, so if it wasn't for the digital recorder, I wouldn't even bother with TV.

As in the Pink Floydd song, "Got thirteen channels of crap on the TV to choose from".. except we got more....
