rrp will be around $450 without HD. $550 with HD incl gst. Release is still mid april. may be some good news coming re software!
Whilst I understand that many subscribers will get a lot of enjoyment out of a new VAST twin tuner PVR from a reputable company like Humax, for myself and a number of other satellite television enthusiasts, paying $600 for a VAST PVR that locks out access to other satellite television services is a non event. Its not Humax's fault - they are merely producing a receiver to government specifications, yet I am intrigued of reports that these same locked receivers will be providing access to internet streamed services and the like. Over to you Conroy.

Streaming is usually over a broadband internet connection (usually 1.5 Mb/s or more).... can be copper or other means to your modem/router & then usually either by Ethernet cable or wireless connection to your STB or Device...
I don't know what connections the Humax will have.
The Humax STB will have Streaming decoding capable software in the STB....much like some TV's & blue ray players, WDTV Live STB, PS3, WII, XBOX, etc... (I think)
(I have not heard any reports about Streaming from a satellite connection.... ??....how successful it is etc ...)

Having had Satellite Internet and I was told by the ISP's (IPSTAR) that 'Streaming' was not an option generally
Not only that there is the Data Cost, I had 4 GB a Month for $44 so you work out what a single one hour TV would chew up of your allowance and cost.
I did try to 'stream' the ABC once but it told me my system wasnt capable of handling it but since going to Wireless, still no ADSL, I did 'stream' a whole episode from the ABC on this same computer.
I cannot see any reason why this 'New' VAST stb couldnt have the facilities to 'Stream' from the Internet via ADSL, thats got nothing to do with VAST.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
Who will be the wholesalers?

The new NBN satellite plans are much cheaper and faster than the old Broadband Guarantee plans that you are talking about. The NBN offering uses a different modem running at 6 Mb/s [and their own ground station equipment] and streaming is fine from ABC iview or the commercial stations. I currently pay $49/month for 20 GB and 30 GB is $59/month with no on/off peak rubbish. This is still very expensive compared to wired or wireless but it's much better than what it was. It is now on IPSTAR but it was running on OPTUS C1. Really, the NBN satellite offering has changed the game entirely for those whose only option is satellite. Also the ping has roughly halved to about 600 m/s.
Hope Tony Abbott doesn't stop this though.

Just changed my plan to 10 gig for $39.95, plans are set by NBN, activ8 just didn't pass on the change??
Anyway back on topic, looking forward to the Humax release date, yippee.

The only way I found of any plan changes when I was with Skymesh was when I received a 'Flyer' addressed to 'The Householder' showing what plans were currently available.
Skymesh were too cheap to send a receipt via email when the monthly payments had been received.

Can't wait to see the new vast humax. Hopefully it will have twin tuners, CI slots, Universal card slot, unmarried,500gb hd, free access to other sats, preloaded Pacific satellite lists, internet ready, wireless, porn loaded, and cost half as much as the UEC model.
I'm not hoping for too much am I?
Here is an ad for the Humax HDR‐1003S VAST Dual Channel PVR $594.95
Well, on face value, the Humax seems to be in front of the UEC Vast PVR model by having these extras,
4. Playback media files from external USB HDD
5. Catch up & VOD Services: ABC iView, SBS On Demand & Quickflix (internet connection required)
6. Humax global TV Portal (Youtube, Picasa, Wiki@TV)
I guess we all need someone to buy the UEC/Humax/and possible Phoenix boxes, and we get the test reviews on here?
Looking forward to all that to see what the original UEC knockers have to say on these models, and how they beat the original suppliers.
One minor glitch for travellers is that it does not have a 12v power supply, but then neither did the UEC 4121.
12 v....Good point.
I see it only has one lnb in connector as well. Wouldn't that mean it only has the capability of recording on the one polarity (although Vast on vertical now)and not 2 polarities as on the UEC model with twin lnb in?
It only has a switched mode power supply which is not so good for solar or those that use crappy chinese generators. Because the new UEC has an external transformer I would have to go for that. I reckon that the Humax might have trouble running on a square wave inverter.
It is a twin tuner with one Input Connector F‐Type, IEC 169‐24, Female, 1 x Input (w/loop through)
quite neat how it can be a twin tuner STB, with only one LNB Input...... (basically I think it internally loops though to the second tuner.....?)
I also like the "removable HDD" (did I read that right ?) ........ HDD Optional (Detachable Cartridge with 2.5” 500GB HDD)
& Smart Card ...... 1 slot
Also like the Use of the Ethernet port for Internet streaming of On demand shows...like Quickflix & ABCiview etc....
