Try System Restore to a point when it was working OK.....

What Operating System.... XP Vista Windows 7 etc...

How long is it since last time Windows was freshly installed on the PC ?

Re-installing Windows does make your software like New again..... but, if it doesn't fix the problem you may have a hardware problem ?

Don't forget to backup your Data & Drivers & Passwords & Software Installation Keys & settings etc... if you still decide to reinstall Windows

(or make a ghost image of your drive)

Your Computer may also have a "return to Factory Option" either on a bootable disk or by entering a Hotkey on Boot of the computer,

this would contain all the drivers & keys you had when you got it from Factory...

but you would need to backup everything you have added since it was new...

But, wait a while....someone else on the Forum, may have had a similar problem to yours & may offer a simpler solution.... or offer some other good advice

    Maybe Do some cleanups first:

    1. CCleaner (Cleaner & registry)
    2. Malwarebytes
    3. Spybot Search & Destroy
    4. "Your" antivirus
    5. Defragment the "C" HDD
    6. Check the HDD for Errors
    7. Windows Update

    & see if any difference

"format" is getting the HDD ready to install the New Operating System., i.e. "format with NTFS to then install windows" (it prepares the disk to install Windows)

but, Philquad, had a good point above that

YOU can try just reinstalling the games?
meaning un-install the game running slow & re-install it again on your computer...

A Tip to finding out the Problem & sometimes the Solution of a computer problem:

If you are getting an error message,or error number, write it down (or take a screenshot of it) (what error message, or error number are you getting ....?)

then put the error message or error number into Google search.....

it sometimes brings up information that points to what the problem is,

& sometimes brings up solutions of how people fixed it before...

Usually Computer problems are Software Problems or Hardware Problems

A fresh install of windows & all your Applications will usually fix your software problems....

if the problem persists.... it is probably a hardware problem.... (faulty part dust or bad connection etc...)

Personally I would have just reinstalled a fresh copy of windows (or put it back to factory condition) & put all your stuff back on, & go from there (maybe take about half a day or a day if you got a lot of stuff)

We cannot tell what your problem is exactly, (if it's major or minor)

If you don't feel confident about this, you may have to take it to someone to check out the problem
