why does dreambox 500 need internet?

hey, i was just wondering why the dreambox needs internet other than for satellites.xml and some addons? i removed the cable and it said signal not found.. any ideas?

internet is only needed if your card sharing - If your running subby card in the boxes card slot then you don't need ethernet cable hooked up - or if your running phoniex reader with whitie you don't need the ethernet cable hooked up.

the main reason is so you can ftp into the unit to change things around and edit files if you want , also so you can use flashwizard to flash the units the CS is a bonus

If you want to use your dm500s just for say abc,sbs, imparja etc then you can set it up with never connecting a network cable...all you need is the correct image already setup with aurora keys.
You can upload the image via the serial port....

But that would entail a bit of luck to get an image setup already....

You removed the wrong cable then. To get this message one assumes you unplugged your satellite dish, not the LAN cable. DM boxes do not give you 2 way internet via the satellite dish (smile).
