Hiya all, roadside Bunnings had this out so couldn't help myself. It's a Pioneer Plasma mod PDP 507 XDA & it works, well with a set top box. Though the miserable aholes didn't leave the remote. Will a universal remote do the job or will I need an original. Thanks

G'day Wort,
I am a big fan of the range of universal remote controls. I am yet to find a product they do not support (even the entry level models). I have installed many Harmony 650's and even my elderly customers love them. I use a 650 at home for the kids, as the macros allow for a single button press for functions such as "Watch TV", "Watch Movie", "Listen to Music" etc. Up to five devices can be programmed, and more for the higher spec models.

I'm also a big fan of Logitech Harmony remotes. You can check the data base before you buy, check link below.

As above. Just buy the cheapest model Harmony.

Doing a bit more research, they talk about screen calibration. Will a universal remote like Logitech harmony range cover this & all Pioneer remote functions. Thanks again. From the pedantic Wort.

Who are the mysterious "THEY" to whom you refer?
Any of the Harmony range with an LCD will support all functions available on the original device through scrolling and soft keys. The 650 happily supports every function available on my Rotel RSP-1066, and on my LG TV it even offers direct input selection rather than navigating through the input source screen.

Hya again all, the harmony remote arrived(yahoooo)& after a successful download I tried to load up the channels on DTV setting, no go. Down the bottom of the page saw signal strength "0" then it came up no channel list. Iv'e had a look round for a user manual & no luck.
Any of you nice people out there suggest where I can download one. Or conversely what the problem may be? I am getting signal from the outlet good enough to run the set top box I tested it with. Cheers & thanks.

There's one here and also here , but you have to pay for it.
Have you tried another known good flylead (cable from wall socket to TV receiver)?Or conversely what the problem may be?
Check the antenna socket on the TV for damage. Sometimes the Belling-Lee female connector needs to be tightened. Also the solder joints where the connector is soldered to the printed circuit board often fatigue and need re-soldering.
You do mean a terrestrial tv set top box and not a satellite STB? (I have encountered people before, who have assumed that an outlet was terrestrial television, but in fact it was a satellite or cable outlet).I am getting signal from the outlet good enough to run the set top box I tested it with. Cheers & thanks.

Maybe the reason it was on the roadside was because the built in tuner is farked?
skreskajona (16-03-13)
Hi tristen thanks for your reply, it is a terrestrial point & the stb is a HD box. The signal level at the stb sig lev 85% qual 98% with existing fly lead. Cheers Wort.

yes usually when you find an lcd or plasma on the side of the road, there is a reason hehe, the only road side tvs that work are the old school crt models

Hi again all, you'll be pleased to know the problem is fixed. The bain of many install problems is HUMAN error. There are two separate tuners with separate inputs. Enough said.

Well done...good score

Not finished yet Bugga. Watching the TV for about an hour then the it turned off. Left for 10 min, then on for 1 min before it turned off & blue light blinks 8 times. Not having a manual I din't know what 8 blink code is. Guessing thermal issue. Can TV guy or anyone in TV tech land assist. TA.

No tech or expert by any means but maybe a powersupply (capacitors) issue or some dry solder joints somewhere?
I've got a lovely 60 inch LG plasma in my shed that works great with dry weather
but once it turns to rainy weather it turns on only to turn itself off after a couple of minutes

Another update guy & gals. Via Pioneer help 8 blinks is(quote) Main 2c Communications. Help suggests error on main board. If that's right has anyone out there have a working main board for sale or a tech I can take it to. Central Coast NSW. Thanks again.
