Default Optus cable Internet and dns

Asking for a friend if its possible to use a service like UNO Telly on a Optus cable Internet service.
Do there routers have the ability to have the setting entered. He wishes to use a roku to view Netflix etc.
Was hoping someone here might have already tried this.
    Thanks.

I cant see why not. Having said that, I dont have cable, have never had it an d have never seen the menu of a cable modem.

But I would expect they would be the same as ADSL, after all, anything that connects to the internet has to have DNS otherwise you couldnt view web sites.

Seems you can, but Optus like Telstra have a bit of habit of "hobbling" modems so you cant change settings. This may be the case.

If you can post up the make and model of modem , we should be able to find out.

It works fine for me, I have cable but enter all the settings via my router, I can view my SB5100 via the Config Manager but mostly the data cannot be modified.
I have two ROKU's working perfectly
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

I can't see the modem making any difference but even if it did there are plenty of SB5100's available on the S/h market

A google showed a few people complaining about some optus cable models having the dns functions removed.

Even if you did have trouble just buy one of these cheap routers to plugin the optus modem and dns problem is immediately solved
