Why not just get a naked adsl service instead?
Hi all,
A mate of mine has a home phone which nobody calls him on and an internet connection via that phone line. He also has a mobile but he is sick of paying his monthly line rental on his phone because he never makes a call on it and nobody ever calls him on it. All of his calls are done on the mobile.
i've suggested to him to get internet via his mobile but he isn''t too sure of the prices. Does anybody have any good suggestions?
Thanks

What would you do if your server was stolen or failed beyond repair?

check iinet out they are pretty good with their naked adsl as long as they have a dslam on your exchange
Depending on whether ADSL2 is available to him , what the last 2 replies said.
Inet via mobile is way expensive .. cost him way more than line rental + Inet via phone line .... example: I pay $5 per 50 MB per month ... if ya surfed say 10 web sites with heavy photos..images .. 50 mb be used .... in matter of hr ...
Trust thyself only, and another shall not betray thee.

wow, wow, wow, hold your horses... WHat on earth is naked adsl??
I think you need to start using the Google page a bit more slick.
Naked ADSL is exactly what your mate has asked for, it is an ADSL connection without line rental. In this day and age, 1000's of people r in the same boat, they have a mobile and just neede the net. Then add to that the fact you can lay VOIP over the top of ya Naked ADSL connection, and you have a virtual landline phone back anyway.
Or your friend could go Sat Internet or Wireless.
I use the Iburst system(Chilli Iburst) it's a wireless internet.
If you live in there coverage
area it woks great (you must have a good signal)I am on the $44 a month plan and it gives you 3 gig download @1mb (split into peek and off peek times)and after that they shape you down to 64kb but they don't charge you excess
but even at 64 kb the system still works my voip very well and I have heard that the C/S works very well also when it's been shaped
When you do things right, people won't be sure that you have done anything at all
Thanks for the info. OCeanboy. I know what you're saying. I usually do but i was in a rush this morning to take the tik taks swimming ;-). I thought i'd ask the question early in the morning so i can get some hits.
this doens't look too bad. i think its similar to the one your on best4less
Always get cable if he doesn't want line rental and the Naked ADSL arent avaliable to him. Though with the cost of bigpond he might wish to pay line rental
Coding in C is like sending a 3 year old to do groceries. You gotta tell them exactly what you want or you'll end up with a cupboard full of pop tarts and pancake mix.
Cable has appalling upload speed 128k or 256k if you're lucky.
That can affect VoIp dramatically, so it's marginal to not have a phone line.
We have been with mynetfone and on optusnet for the last 18 month and have had NO problems with using Voip on a cable broadband connection. In fact we use multiple lines, i.e. more than one Voip connection at once with no effect. We can also surf the web simultaneously.
Standard ADSL ( 8 MB ) only has a maximum of 384 up and most plans from 256-1500 down generally have a 128-256k up.
I agree cables uploads speed are ridiculously slow compared to their download speeds , but they are no different to standard ADSL. I know many people with 512/128k upload speeds with voip with no problems at all so I would say its well worthwhile not having a phone line ( as long as you are with a reliable provider )
