Default adding a motor to a dish - cost

    hi guys
i'm a complete n00b with satellite stuff but am thinking seriously of adding a motor to my 90cm dish - dish is currently pointed at D2 for God TV but i'd like more variety. i'd pay a pro to do this for me as i am ot confident enough to do this myself. what should i expect to pay for this? thanks

No wonder, anyone would be bored with that sh1t
A Moteck should be less than $100 to buy and then installation on top.
You could also buy a sat finder for about the same money and have a go yourself.
Plenty of hobbiests here to give you advice.
The bonus of doing it this way is
    * you get a sat finder to keep
    * you learn something (and it's not all that hard)
    * the sense of achievement is priceless
Failing all these bonuses persuade you to do it yourself, maybe consider adding the area you live in to your post so other hobbiests or installers can make you an offer

Well done weirdo. Positive stuff. It is amazing how reasonable satellite bits and pieces are if you take your time and look around and price things. I spent like a full year tuning some KU dishes and then C-Band dishes. Look, I had some frustrating times and my wife trieng to get me away from the dishes and inside for dinner! I spent hours tuning the dishes but it was fun and as you say not all that hard, but they are priceless memories of learning tuning all those satellites.

A few things to consider when adding a H-H motor.

Is the existing mount perfectly plumb?... it has to be.

Is there sufficient height/clearance with the existing mount?... because the dish will sit much lower on a motor arm.

Is there sufficient clearance for the dish to turn?

Realistically, there's not a great deal of FTA sat signals available on Ku.

C-Band gives you greater variety, but you would obviously need a C-Band dish to receive them.

    Tejas,
An alternative would be to fit-up your 90cm dish with multiple LNBs.
There are several very informative threads on this site, complete with photos, that explain how to go about this.
You would definitely need the satfinder mentioned by Weirdo if you went this way.
Depending on your location, it should be possible to acquire D1, C1, and D2 on the one 90cm dish.
As MTV pointed out, though, there's not a lot to choose from on Ku.
C1 would give you Al Jazeera, and D1 gives you all State ABC and SBS channels.
I imagine you are already aware, since you are receiving D2, that you can get RT, Press TV, NHK, and MRT on D2.
These are all english-language services, good news and business coverage (although somewhat parochial at times), and some excellent documentaries. MRT is a bit ordinary most of the time.
Cost for this: couple of 10.7 LNBs at about $30 ea., a bit of mounting hardware - about $15 for the Magic Mount (or home-brew), a 4-way Disecq switch - $15, and between $50-150 for the satfinder, depending on which one you go for.
I've assumed that your receiver is Disecq-capable.
And the benefits? A slightly wider view of the world, the ability to watch ABC/SBS programs at different times of the day, and the sense of achievement mentioned by Weirdo.
    Try it.....you'll like it :-)
